My son is hogging the 360 and so I decided to get one for my own use. It'll be for GH/RB, so I don't care if there's a game bundled with it unless it's GH:M.
Anyone know of any specials currently out?
TIA,
CM

I just picked up a 360 Pro at Dell with a 20% off coupon ($240 total). I believe the 20% off coupon has expired, but it looks like they are offering $50 off at the moment:

The elite is also $50 off there, I see.
I just sold both my n64 adaptoids on ebay, and coupled with some other sources, I have enough money to drop onto a 360. Only problem is, over the last year, many analysts expected a price drop on the ps3 and 360. (One would cause the other.) And they expected it this month.
Except Sony dropped a deuce on consumers, and dropped the ps2 price instead at the end of last month.
I just don't want to spend money buying a console and have it drop in price a month later. I can just feel it would happen. I just know it.

WOW no offense but tell your son that you pay the bills so ---fudgesicle--- OFF!!!

You must have grown up in a broke ass home... Cakemeister is entitled to love his son and let him play some 360. Obviously he could compromise with his son and get more time or just tell him "I pay the bills" and take it all for himself but he has decided that getting a second one would be better in his opinion which to be perfectly honest is the only one that matters since it's his home and money.
You're entitled to your opinion of course, perhaps you should think about what you're typing a little more next time though. What you said and with the emphasis the way it is comes off very abrasive.
This community is a friendly one and doesn't have room for jack-assery. (except maybe in P&R)
* The preceding statement was my opinion and not necessarily the opinion of the Cakemeister, BYOAC or anyone else for that matter.

Dell has Xbox 360 Arcade for $169.00
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/XBOX_360/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A2500399
Would that have everything I need? Console, one controller, no games, minimum hard drive.

That has no hard drive at all, but instead has 256MB flash built in.
Being a Rock Band system, you'll definitely be needing a touch more storage than that. :)

...he has decided that getting a second one would be better...
I can think of a few ways it would be cool to have two 360's in the house.
Father son multiplay would be cool. As would being able to play two different games.
Really for $200 it's not a bad deal if you have the cash.

I took no offense at your comments.

They have 120gig hard drives for $80 on Ebay. So that's $240 total.
Thanks for the info.
-
You can also squeeze a few bucks by getting a 20GB hard drive and swapping it out with a larger one.... but at $80 for the 120, I'm not sure I'd bother.
You talking about the Western Digital swap? Is there any danger of an Xbox Live ban due to that? I have heard not, but with how much I play online with my friends, it would really not be worth it for me to get banned.
-
I have not read anything about a ban for doing the disk drive hack PBJ mentioned.
But doing that hack doesn't save you nearly as much money as it used to. A new 20 GB drive costs about $30 or so, then you have to buy the replacement 120GB drive and do the hack, when a new 120 GB drive for the 360 costs $80.
-
A few days ago Woot had refurbs with 20 GB hard drives for $160. Shame you missed that.

For buying new yeah, but if you already have a 20 gig thats running out of space, the hack will cost me $50 and I can transfer my data along the way. The new ones dont come with a transfer kit, so Id have to go through part of the hacking process anyway to get the data transferred.
For buying new though, totally just get the $80 on ebay.
-
I'm also considering getting a different combo: a "console only" from ebay (currently $110), plus the $80 hard drive, plus a broken console which includes the cables. If I can get the broken console for say $30 shipped, that's $220 total, and the console would have the HDMI output for futureproofing.
EDIT: There are power bricks and AV cables on Ebay separately, no broken console needed. The console only without HDMI is $100, 120GB hard drive $80, power brick/AV cable for $20, total $200.

$155 with a 20 GB hard drive. (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=XBOX360-PB-2R) It's refurbished, but that is a helluva deal.
-
There's already 25GB of DLC on the other 360. I think that 20GB is probably not enough space for me. If I get the $155 refurb, sell the drive for $30, and get the $80 120GB drive, that's about $205 net cost.
Compare that to the $200 Arcade version, brand new plus Jasper chipset, plus the $80 hard drive, for a total of $280.
Is the 40% extra cost worth the extra reliability of Jasper? Tough question.

the 60 gig version, refurbished, for 195. These can also be gotten with free shipping.
The 20 gigs are sold out now btw...

I jumped on that. Hopefully I won't regret getting a refurb.

I read on afterdawn today that they'll be selling a bundle very soon with elite model PLUS halo 3 and fable ii for the same price. Basically getting two games for free.
Also read that Sony may finally lower their ps3 cost at e3, which is june 2-4. So another 6 weeks or so, and we may see a 360 price drop as well.
-
Since we're getting down to splitting costs to the nitty gritty, it's worth noting you're going to need to buy or manufacture a connectivity kit to do any flashing of the newer systems. $0-40 depending on how crafty you are.
I thought I would just log in to Live and redownload all my DLC. Can't I do that without a connectivity kit and without paying?
-
I believe PBJ is talking about hacking the Xbox to play "backups".
As for legit games and DLC, yes you should be fine with just logging in and re-downloading.
-
Computer geeks charged me for a 60GB unit, but shipped me one with a 20GB drive. Infuriating.
-
Did they ever remedy the problem?
Also, the fable II and halo 3 elite bundle is available for 399.99
-
No. F them.
I ordered the 120GB drive from Ebay and I'll sell the 20GB drive when the new drive comes in.
-
They just flat out refuse to fix the problem?
Did you use a credit card? If so, dispute it.
-
The console won't play GHWT so I am RMAing it. They had better replace the disk drive while they're at it.
I'm regretting this purchase. I should have had a V8, then bought the Xbox Arcade version with the new chipset plus the 120GB drive.
-
If you're modding/hacking PCBs, I don't know whether these are the newer or older versions. I ordered some, so I'll know soon enough.
But if you just want one for your own use, it's a pretty good deal:

Just read yesterday that the new elite bundles are the older elites. They do NOT have the jasper units on them.
Good ol' M$ trying to offload obsolete and flawed inventory.
-
I mailed off the thing today.

They've received the RMA and they're giving me a refund. Less shipping.
So I learned my lesson. Buy a freaking new 360. :soapbox:
I will be purchasing a new Arcade edition 360 with a Jasper chipset as soon as the refund appears on my credit card.
I created gamer tag "Cakemeister" on Xbox Live. Right now I just have silver, but soon I will be shelling out the $50 bucks for gold.
-
Quite frankly, I think they should be obligated to pay both, since they made the mistake. I know you should be able to get at least ONE way reimbursed, if not both.
E3 starts tomorrow. Wait a few more days before buying one. You wouldn't want to, then have the price possibly drop, do you? Unless Sony drops theirs, I doubt M$ will either. And that's looking sketchy. But it's only a few more days to wait.
-
No news regarding price cuts any time soon. Perhaps in the fall when Sony releases the slim PS3, but that's awhile away.
