Many reports from shoryuken.com are coming in that having a PS2 to PS3 adapter connected to your PS3 while making the firmware update 2.7 MAY BRICK you're system, which means that you may have to reformat the hard drive erasing all your save data, downloads, etc.
- Edit: added another link

Technically speaking, how is it considered bricking when a simple reformat resolves it? When one toasts a Windows install one does not say the PC has bricked. Or is formating the PS3 not a simple matter and requires a specialized set of tools (eg a modified battery for the PSP)?

Did the PSP come with a software CD to reformat it?

Arn't the PS2->PS3 adaptors simple PS2->USB HID Gamepad adaptors and so the PS3 treats the PS2 controllers like any generic USB gamepad? (Hence lack of support for NeGcon, Guncon, Guitar Hero guitars and other specialty stuff) I don't see how that could cause an issue.
