My local Best Buy is selling Guitar Hero controller only
guitars for $20 on a clearance deal, wondering if they're
worth picking up...
I have never played any of the GH or Rock band
games yet, but have been curious given the
fascination of it all. Is it really that much fun or
just hype?
Would it work with both GH and RB games if I picked
those up later?

If it's an official Red Octane controller, it should.

Guitar Hero Compatibility Chart (http://cdn.guitarhero.com/ghhub/GHWT_compatibility.pdf)
the band games are great for groups.
I'm not sure how much fun a single player guitar game would be though.
I enjoyed solving RB1 as a solo guitar, but I never played solo again after I finished it on medium and hard. I didn’t even feel compelled to try it on expert.
even when I bought GH:WT I had no interest in playing it by myself.

I find GH much harder than RB, even on the same level.
The Best Buy here has those controllers at those prices or cheaper but it's all PS2 guitars... nothing for a current system.
-
;D
My PS2 -IS- my current system -- hah!
I only got it last year and am working my way
through discovering it's gaming goodness...
by the time I'm done w/ it maybe the PS3/Xbox 360
generations will come down in price....
Thanks for the compatibility chart, but I have
no idea what kind it is, only that it is for the PS2.
Maybe it's the same as ChadTower's...
-
Actually, looks like it's a sale that maybe hasn't started here yet, since it's on fatwallet now for all systems. :)
-
yeah..looks like a good deal to me. i've already have 6 of these guitars, so i don't need anymore..but $20 for a wireless guitar is a good deal.

According to the official Guitar Hero Chart the Les Paul Guitar isn't compatible with RockBand on PS3. I read on another site that it was, since I have GH:WT and the guitar that came with it broke I figured $20 to have two working guitars for GH:WT was a good deal so I bought one.
It works with my Rockband game too.
It's a lot smaller than the RB guitar and a little smaller than the GH:WT one. The buttons feel stiff and the strummer is clicky, but if it's more reliable than the other two(which is what the reviews say about it) I don't mind.
It's a great deal for 20 bucks.

Just to be sure, I THINK this is the guitar I saw.
I'll go back today, will probably pick it up (can't pass
on a good deal)

EDIT:
I take it back, I remember it being white; I bet it was this one...

Still by Red Octane, still apparently works with GH, GH2, GH3...

They didn't have any more at my Best Buy when I went back today :-[
I opted to go online and ended up getting an Aerosmtih GH SG 2-pack (two SG guitars, albeit wired) plus the game and etc for around $45, figured
that was enough of a deal.
Thanks for the compatibility chart, that helped. I might try out Rock band software after a time...

Just picked up a World Tour guitar for X360 by itself for $22.19 on ebay!
