The Elo TS is a piece of glass that is not connected to the monitor behind it.except for a bundle of wires. I have been searching around to see how people are keeping the TS Glass in place. It looks like allot of people are just screwing the frame in and nailing a bezel/wood frame to sandwitch in that floating piece of glass that is the actual touchscreen. I see how that would work but I am concerned that it may shift around if the juke is bumped or moved. Interested in how people have solved this problem.

The touchscreen glass is typically taped into position around the perimeter where you cannot see the tape.

When i fix the 3M CRT overlays i use double sided sticky foam that i think is used for insulation. It gives a nice finish and is availble cheaply by the roll. I have seen duct tape used but it looks ugly.

Thanks Guys, I went ahead a bought some double sided foam from Home Depot. Hope it is thick enough. Also may use some gorrilla tape as well, I can't believe that is all I need!!!

Got the double sided foam tape, Ahh no need to worry about this thing shifting, the glass would break before it came off!!!!! just didn't align it great before it took hold :banghead:.......it will work though, thanks for the help!

Damn should have told you once it's on it's stuck well... It can be removed if you really need to. I use a razer blade and then clean the residue off with an alchol cleaning solution. Some of the screens i get are held on with duct tape and they can come in a right mess. Anyway good luck with it all dude, glad you are sorted.

Thanks dude, just incase anyone else is looking for this, At homedepot there was some foam tape by 3m and it was thick, then there is some other stuff that is industrial and red. I used the red stuff, had to cut it down the middle because it was too wide. Make sure you have two corners lined up and set it down. Rock solid!!!!!!

Ken can you explain why the happcontrols kit has so many different items in it. How are the various pieces of tape and fabric used?

There are several things in the Happ kit for if you are installing a touchscreen in a Merit Megatouch cabinet (because you'll use all of them).
First you clean the face of the monitor tube glass so it's absolutely clean. Then go around the edges of the glass with the alcohol wipe to assure good bond of the double sided black tape. That tape is a very strong bond so you must make sure it's in proper position before pressing it onto the glass. Now carefully line up the touchscreen glass and press into place. Now wrap the whole outside perimeter of the touchscreen glass with the black cloth tape. You are wrpping the touchscreen glass edges to form a seal to keep the face of the monitor tube glass free from dirt/grime/smudges so you never have to clean the monitor. Remember, once that touchscreen glass is installed you can never get in there to clean the monitor glass again. That's why sealing it up with the black cloth tape is important. Plus the black colth tape is used to protect the touchscreen cable's delicate wires as they emerge from the touchscreen.
The black foam weatherstripping is used to pad the surface of the monitor bezel so it gives a clean, attractive, seal between the bezel and the face of the touchscreen glass. This prevents cracking of the touchscreen glass and excessive pressure/binding/pinching on the touchscreen that could cause false touches being registered.
If you have ever removed a touchscreen monitor from a Merit Megatouch game you'll see how all this taping is done properly. Plus you'll see why these monitors cost so much. The touchscreen glass itself is expensive (around $300) plus the labor it takes to install it properly.

Just an observation here, but I think the original poster was asking about the flat LCD touchscreens that everybody has been using lately. Ken is talking about the tube type touchscreen, where the black tape helps hold the TS to the monitor tube and covers the wires.
I've been watching this thread as well, since I'm building an LCD touchscreen bartop. I mounted the screen by looking at the pictures in the several 'Mountain' touch screen jukebox threads. I must have done something wrong though, because last night when I went to power everything on for the final test before completing construction I found the right edge of the screen didn't register. I played around with my mounting screws by tightening and loosening them which did effect the range of registration, but not to the extent that the edge was usable.
I removed the screen from the cabinet, and put it back in the plastic faceplate that came with it. I then sat it on the floor faceup, and it registered fine. At this point I'm thinking that my setup is pressing the LCD panel too tight against the touch screen panel. I did remove a bit too much wood from where the LCD mounts, so that's why I'm leaning in that direction.
I'm trying to figure out a solution, and as of now I'm thinking of sticking the touch screen to the wood with sticky tape and adding some type of risers to the LCD mounts to get it so it's not pressing on the touch screen. I'm guessing that it should work fine even if the LCD is not in contact with the touch screen.

Update to my own dilemma. I used some nuts as spacers, and reinstalled the screen to that the LCD was not even touching the touch screen and it worked fine. So now my issue is that the touch screen flops back and forth inside the frame since it isn't stuck to the frame and the LCD doesn't press it against the frame. I applied foam tape a few weeks ago when I first mounted it, but the foam was so high that it recessed the touch screen panel more than I liked.
Now I have to decide whether to try more foam, smaller spacers or double sided tape to stick the touch screen to the frame. I'd like to hear from someone who has used tape, as I'm afraid that the tape being stuck to the touch screen will cause problems. The ridges on the touch screen are part of what makes it work, and that's what the tape would be sticking to.

I think I may have figured it out. It does seem that the foam pressing on the 'active' edges of the touchscreen was fouling it up. I ended up cutting thin strips of posterboard and attaching them to the monitor surround. Now the assembly is sandwiching the strips of posterboard between the monitor opening and the touchscreen face - keeping away from the edges.
I did a test with my spare boardset, and it worked great. I've buttoned it all back together with the real hardware, and will do the final test tomorrow. With any luck I'll be on to final paintwork this week!
