I am sticking a PC in my Ms. Pac using the J-Pac and a JAMMA adapter with MALA.
Is it cool to use a Soft15 driver for my VGA card instead of buying a new ArcadeVGA card? Trying to save some dough.
Looks like the J-Pac will protect the monitor until the driver loads and the video card is outputting 15k.
My buddy did this and it is working fine. But I just really want to triple confirm as I don't want to fry my new Wells Gardener monitor.
I read some stuff last night in the Project Arcade book that scared me but that was written before the J-Pac came out.
So, this is from the J-Pac site:
If required, can divide a 31Khz VGA signal in half so that it will display a stable picture on a 15Khz arcade monitor. Useful for checking boot-up progress and configuration (not for application use). Automatically stops dividing the signal when it detects a correct 15Khz rate is being send by the PC

AFter much research today I have answered this question today. So, yes, it is safe. The J-Pac protects the monitor during boot. :)
