Title: AAL downloads
Post by: SavannahLion on March 03, 2009, 11:58:22 am
Is there a requirement to be met to download art from AAL? AAL page says there isn't but.... I wanted to grab a sample art and chose Warp Warp (http://www.localarcade.com/arcade_art/details.php?image_id=390) because well... I don't know. It's just a random choice.

Problem is, I keep getting cut off from the server. The most of any compressed file I can download is about 108K with an average of right around 66.7K. Uncompressed is even smaller, right around 7K. No error message of any sort.

Checked the incomplete files in a Hex Editor and the correct headers are there. It's not a borked html file or anything like that. The file is simply incomplete.

Other random files result in exactly the same behavior. Tested with FF and IE and same behavior.

Anyone know what's up?

(Would this post technically go in Artwork? if so, feel free to move it.)

I got a weird error the first time too.  Try using a download manager like "DownloadThemAll" (assuming you use firefox).  Worked fine when I used that.

I'll give it a shot.

Nope. Even downloaded DownloadThemAll like the previous poster suggested and got no improvements. Seems to me some sort of setting error somewhere. I get part of the file, but never the entire thing. :\

In DTA, when it fails did you try clicking on the download when it fails and resuming?  That worked for me.
Definitely seems to be something wrong with the site, but I was able to get the files that way.  :dunno

I tried resuming, but it doesn't get very far..not even past 200k and i get a size mismatch error or something.  Its like the server is saying the file is done but the download is expecting more...I'm getting the same result as SavannahLion.

I tried again, and I had to resume it quite a few times before it worked.  I think on the 6th try it worked LOL.

The best I've been able to get up to is about 29% then it dies with DTA, even with the resume.

Yeah, I have been having problems getting the web server to complete full download of any static file information. It's really an odd problem that I haven't been able to isolate. It's happening across the board, not just with the software that runs the AAL.

It's slow going, but it is going.

Spaz, I'm not really looking to download that specific file (thanks though). The problem is what Sirwoogie mentioned, it's any file I try to download from AAL whether it be .ai, .zip .gif or any other format and any of the cabinet art, not just Warp.

I chose Warp for no other reason that it was the last one.

Woogie,

Do you have any updates on the progress of figuring out the download problem?  This has been going on for quite some time now....

What things have been tried?

Hmm.... this was working before. Sorry guys been out of the scene recently with work and personal issues. I'll see if I can fix it soon.

OK, after taking 86 thousand years to correct the AAL issue, I believe it is working. There was an obscure setting on the web server component tripping up the network driver.

What a PITA!

Please let me know if if there are still issues! I promise to only take a thousand years next time. :)
