Just purchased Arctic Thunder made in 2000. Monitor looked good except the black spot right in the middle and is visible when its powered off. I thought there was a cover over the CRT but there is not as it looks like its inside the glass. See picture although its not a good one. Any ideas?
Also, we had to lay the game on its back to drive home as it was too tall to stand up. Now the bottom of the monitor has a wave to hit with the colors blurrish in that section. Otherwise the rest of the monitor looks good. When I opened the back of the cabinet I noticed the tape holding the clips to the "degaussing ring" around the neck let go (probably during shipping) and was just hanging there. Attached is a pic of the bottom of the monitor and the inside of the monitor. I don't see a model on the monitor except it says Wells Gardner and its a 27". Any ideas?

me thinks the crt may have been briefly ran without the yoke connected, or defective "spot killer "
a no yoke condition WILL burn the phosphor in seconds.
once burnt, the only remedy is crt replacement .

The detached coil looks like it could be a rotation coil, which could result in your odd bottom geometry. Dunno if this monitor features rotation. Could also just be part of the degauss coil. Try re-attaching with some foam tape or similar (which is what would have been used initially) and see if your bottom "wave" goes away.
As for the spot, I'll defer to the other monitor experts, but qrz's assessment sounds reasonable, and sadly that's not fixable.

Thanks for all the excellent advice. The coil that fell off was just reattached with some two way tape with the lower monitor still a issue. I did notice two wires are attached to the coil piece and goes to the board labeled deguss. Safe to assume its set to deguss everytime the monitor is turned on?

That has to be it. I now have a monitor with a faint spot in the middle, luckily the tube is very dark and its super pac man so no solid color in the center of the screen. It only took about 8 seconds for this to occur until I realized the yoke wasn't connected...

Well it turns out that when I was trying to put that ring back on, the bottom magnet fell out from the pastic piece around the neck towards the monitor. I put it back it not thinking it mattered which way. Tonight after pulling more hair out, I flipped the magnet the other way and the curve towards the bottom went back to normal. So, problem one solved.
My son is going to have to live with the dot until the monitor goes and needs to be replaced for a major problem.
