Title: Light Gun Issues with ____ Hunter series
Post by: markronz on February 27, 2009, 12:59:21 pm
Is anyone aware of any reason why the Deer Hunter games wouldn't work with my Act Labs light gun?    My light guns work fine with other games like Area 51 and others but not with any of the _____ Hunter series games.    I tried going into the service menu and calibrating the gun, which does seem to work, but then when I go to try to play the game, it doesn't recognize any of my shots.   I don't have any special controls set up for the game, it's using the same config as all the other shooter games.  Anyone know?

Thanks!

You're talking on mame, right?  I looked at the source, and it looks like the trigger and pump are each listed with two inputs in the driver.  One is the normal button 1 & 2, but the other is a IPT_SPECIAL type, an input that needs special code in mame.  However in my quick skim, I couldn't find the special handling code.

Do other inputs work?  If not, it could be a driver issue.

Yes, I was referring to MAME.

In the arcade version you had to shoot, reload, shoot, reload.  So that makes sense.   I am able to add quarters and press start, but when i shoot the screen just flashes and the shot does not register.   I just find it weird that if I go into the calibration service menu of the game it does see where I shoot.  So I'm not really sure what's up with that.

If you find anything out with that IPT_SPECIAL please let me know!

Fairly simple, but make sure you are "reloading" before every shot.  YOu have to load the gun, then fire to select things in the hunter games.   So obviously make sure you have both button 1 and button 2 configured.  Sadly took me a few tries to figure that out.
