I'm running Mame 127u3
and I want to save my slider control settings for tempest but it reverts back to the default when I quit the game, where every other input saves correctly
is this a bug or is it supposed to be like that, if so is there a way to save the slider settings for a specific game?

did your try setting autosave to 1 in your mame.ini?
-
Thanks Headkaze,
Just tried it and still no go
any other Ideas?
Seems like a bug to me
every other setting category seems to save just fine, even before I put the autosave to 1
oh and by the way what does autosave do?
-
Hmmm. They've stayed the same for me for a long time. I notice, though, when using MameUI that if you change settings in the in-game UI, they do not show up in MameUI's UI, but are retained somehow and show the same values in-game when the game is restarted.

hey Ummon,
what version of Mame are you running?

Actually I did a little more investigation MOST of the sider setting do save!
but the two I want for Tempest
Vector Flicker
Beam Width
as well as Master Volume
don't save, anybody now how to save those for individual games
I can change them globally in the mame.ini file, but I'd like to save for individual games

I had the exact same problem trying to save the volume attenuation on the Mame32 control panel. Eventually I found the answer, When you write mame to a CD-R or DVD-R it becomes READ ONLY, the reason your settings you choose are lost when you exit and go back in are because your mame.ini file that you have on your hard drive has remained READ ONLY.
All you need to do is right click your mame.ini file and make sure READ ONLY is unchecked then click on APPLY.
I think that will cure your problem, its not a bug as such its just something that happens sometimes when you transfer from a CD-R or DVD-R.
Hope this helps.

would that work seeing as some are saved and some not? I'll check to see just in case

Bender. Either amend the game(s)'s ini, or use mame32/UI to change it. Anyways, yeah, some time after the re-write, I noticed the behavior I mentioned above.

Well what I found was, things I had saved before writing to CD-R remained the same as you'd expect, while things after the CD-R was copied back to the machine then wouldn't save. Totally logical but easy to over look, I'd check to make sure you don't have anything "Read Only" that shouldn't be. Then if its not that at least its another thing you can rule out. :)
