Title: using bezels on vertical games
Post by: zaktallica on January 31, 2009, 12:58:01 am
Ok so I downloaded a mame extras set from [romsite name redacted] but I noticed it did not include the bezels so I can fill up the whole screen with background art instead of black bars. So what I was wondering is where is a good place to download background art that would fill up the whole screen for vertical games? Also is there a way to enable art ONLY for vertical games? Thanks

I would also like to know how to hide the clones of roms because im using hyper spin front end it I hate it when it repeats roms from different country's etc.

you just put the games you want showing in your mame.xml
do a search on the hyperspin forum for a complete one without clones

as for the bezel, sorry I dont know

None here knows what im talking about? So everyone playing on a 4:3 screen just plays vertical games with black bars on the side?

ok download your artwork.
put it in your mame\artwork folder (no need to unzip)
in the game you want to enable the artwork press tab, select display and go to where it says bezel and change to enable
this will be saved for that game from then on

makes the games too small imho as the bezel go's across the top too not just the sides
Dont think I'll use this option, maybe on a 27" monitor+ but 21" is too small

Thanks for help I did figure all that out before and FYI you can go to those mame settings and hit CROP and it will expand the game image and still have art. Im just wondering if there is a place to get all the bezels at once and use them ONLY for vertical games. Also for some reason in mameUIFX when I say enable bezels/art etc I still need to hit tab while in a game and go to the settings and enable art if there is any...

Some input:

I don't know of a place to get all the available Bezel art files at once, but you can modify the list at Mr Do's site by clicking on the "bz" letters; this will only show games which have bezel art files available.

What I've done is create a "generic" bezel image using the 1943 art file; I used photoshop to create a simple metal-looking background with 'rivets', and re-named the .lay file and the .zip file for each game, then saved and placed in the artwork folder. It's a bit of work, but the results are worth it IMO ... I too hated the black areas on either side  ;)

With MAME32UI you can select the option to use bezels and art for all games.  Choose the crop artwork option.  It will only show up on vertical games, unless there is a little piece that extends over the game area like in Mario Bros.

It's conceivable that some don't have the mental affliction of seeing these as blank spaces, let alone that they need to be filled. Box. In box. Out of box. You see?
