Don't get excited, its only an offer to me.
So my uncle recently learned about my minor obsession with arcade, uh, stuff. I had know previously that he owned a pinball machine, but not which pinball. So upon learning of my arcade obsession he offers me his pinball machine for free, under two conditions, i finish putting it together, and i haul it away. Now knowing my uncle, i am going to assume that the pinball machine is in very good condition, but what pinball machine, none other than Twilight zone.
So now i am really pumped to have this amazing pinball machine, for free, but, now this is a big problem, i will need to drive, to and back, from Austin, to San Fransisco, and back, with some time spent in utah.

Poor You... :censored:
Lucky Bastard! ;D
You can always have him ship it to you, anything is less than it would have been to buy it new or used.
So... Any idea what he means by put it together? I am taking it there is no way this is 100% new and never used, is it!? :pics

im going to ask him if the offer is real, im not certain, i only got the idea that he wasn't serious when he said he had put a lot of time restoring it, i mean, my uncle, he is loaded, i don't even know, what are the stock options for former V.P.'s of apple? so like, money isn't so much of a problem for him, its just that he totally restored, or at least bought all the things nessicary to restore it.
So its almost certainly in amazing condition, or will be.
I'm going to ask him, and for some pics. And shipping i think is out of the question, i think he wants me to visit him, cause i rarely see him, and i love to see his other crazy toys.
and, don't think because he is loaded that i am, he has only givin' me an ipod nano, and the ability to solder well.

oh also, the problem with picking it up, is going to be that it will mean, me and two of my friends, all 17 driving somthing like 4,000 mile round trip, and my parents and theirs, may not support that too much.
-
Better just let me have it. ;D
-
eah, :dunno maybe not, i mean really, i don't even own it yet.

How old are you? I assume you are also 17-18.
It probably isn't a great idea to drive cross country with 2 17 year old buddies.

yes...
...but, were all nerds and, i don't know, its is a bad idea, but it is a free pinball machine, and a chance to visit my uncle. And i'm 17.

well, my plan is this, normally in the summer my family drives to utah, normally southern utah in the summer, and now i am of the age where my parents have given me the option of bringing one or two friends, so my plan is to, drive with my friends to california, and then meet my parents in southern utah, and then chill there for a month with my friends, also, there is a place right there that i think i can get a bubble bobble cab for really really cheap.

Personally, if your Uncle expects a 17 year old kid to make a 4000 mile round trip, he is a dick. That's just my opinion though.

Dude. You could get that shipped to you first class and still come out ahead. Hell, it still sells on epay for $4K. If was given a several thousand dollar machine for free, Id drive cross country for it no problem, though I agree parents wouldn't really want a bunch of 17 year olds driving that far. At least not me with MY friends...

Ive been on a 13hr drive (each way) to get something... and it was a real insane
idea. I would NOT recommend it!
Check to see if you cant get a quote from Pilot Air. Ive seen pins shipped by
them for $200 from power sellers. Might be a bit more than that... but
it would be well worth it.
NAV might be ok... but Ive heard some horror stories from many
collectors, including one here locally.

Does he know what you look like?
Because maybe I could pretend to be you & go get it.

I think it's great taking a roadtrip like that with your buddies at that age. That's the stuff memories are made of!
When I dreamt of moving to Hollywood, I made the drive from Chicago to LA twice before I was 18. Once with a friend and once solo. The only problem that I ran into was some hotels not wanting to rent a room to someone under 18 but there were enough that would.
Hell, it would be a cakewalk today with a GPS unit and all the pre-planning you can do on the net for cool places to see. I had to use a Rand-McNally.
Get a AAA membership before you leave if you don't have one already.
Have fun!

You've been driving since you were five. That's nuts. Most of us have to wait until we are 15 or 16.
Roadtrips are great....especially with a few friends. Good luck picking up your TZ. I am jealous!

Can a 17 year old legally cross the state line?
-
Isn't this how that movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre started?

i certainly hope that was a joke, if so it was very funny. and yeah, 17 year old can cross the state line, we are one country, and there are no state boarder crossing stations

Hell, here in Illinois, we're legally adults...

Driving 1300 miles is alot different than riding in the back, napping, playing gameboy, etc for 1300 miles.

well, this winter, and this summer, i helped drive. in the summer, i only drove 300 miles, it was a start, but in winter i just helped drive about 400 miles both ways, and i could havve easily done more.
