Title: MAME32 + TV - can anyone recommend video settings?
Post by: ahofle on June 23, 2003, 01:13:49 pm
I have my TV hooked up to my S-video out on my ATI Radeon 7500 and I'm using MAME32.  I'm a little bit unhappy with the picture.  After hours of messing with the controls on the TV and in MAME32 I have gotten it decent, but I'm wondering if there is something in MAME32 I haven't tried yet.  TO be more specific with my problem, I'm seeing 'flickering' in about every game I play when you look closely at the screen.  It's as though the refresh rate is not correct.  It just doesn't seem smooth like on the PC or at the arcade for that matter.  In addition, whenever there is motion of any sprite, you can clearly see huge 'scanlines' in the sprite, instead of fluid animation.  I tried turning scanlines on and off in MAME and I'm still seeing this (BTW, should scanlines be turned on for TV output?)  Any help or input would be most appreciated.  Everything I've read about video output was that a TV is preferred to the picture of a PC monitor, but I'm a little disappointed so far.

You might want to try a version of mame that is made for TV's. I think there are a couple different ones out there, I use SmoothMame-

Otherwise if you want to stick with Mame32, you can try to mess with the flicker removal in the ATI control pannel and see if that helps.

I did mess with that a little bit, but as far as I can tell all it does is blurr the picture so you can notice it as much. :(  I'll look into the TV versions of MAME, thx.
