Title: Outrunners DIP Switches-Single Machine Mode
Post by: SirDaShadow on January 18, 2009, 09:52:27 am
I'm trying to set Outrunners  (orunneru) DIP Switches so MAME will run it in "stand-alone" mode. The problem is that  Mame 0.128 will not let me access the DIP switches and even after going to service mode and set "stand-alone", it is still networked. How can I fix this?  :banghead:

Well, the mame driver has no hardware dipswitches declared.  If the cab didn't have hardware dipswitches, mame is correct not to "let" you access the nonexistent switches.  (Whether or not if the cab had hardware switches is another issue.)

Maybe you're confusing "dual screen" with "networked".  One cab was two player with two screens, seats & set of controls, and you could network cabs together to get more than two players.  AFAIK, networking isn't correctly emulated anyway.

In 0.129, it starts in stand alone without problems.  If your prob is seeing both screens: tab, video options, screen 0 standard.  You might need to exit the game and restart, but then it shows only one screen.

You are right, I meant to say "dual screen". My computer is beefy enough to run both sides at 60 fps, but it's kinda unnerving to listen to all of the audio on the left channel...

Ahh, audio too.  I think aaron is working on getting this area more modular like the video currently is.  I'm not sure if the changes will help in this game, as the original had both sides running right next to each other.  Now, if the original had stereo for each player, it is more likely to be improved at some point, but when the driver was written (and currently) mame was able to simulate output the sound for the two sides by splitting the sound to the two PC speakers.

As one mameDev, Arbee, says, "Sit back and enjoy what happens."
