Title: Arcade VGA + non 60hz vertical refresh causes screen rolling
Post by: yuff on December 31, 2008, 02:12:15 pm
Hello! Trying to figure out this issue. I searched but couldn't really find an answer.

I have a brand new 19" MTG-XX01 Vision Pro CGA arcade monitor. Seems that when I change to any of the resolutions that are not a 60hz vert refresh rate, I get a vertical roll in my picture. I haven't adjusted the v-hold yet because the monitor manual says it is sealed and should not need adjusting. I am assuming also that if I adjusted it for a 51Hz refresh rate that I would have to re-adjust for 60Hz.

What I am trying to accomplish is playing some vertical games on the horizontal monitor. Seems the closest res to alot of the older Namco games in 352x288 but of coarse I get vertical rolling. Any ideas? Can the Arcade VGA output 352x288@60hz instead of 51hz?

Thanks in advance

You should read the monitor section of the wiki, in particular on scan rate.

OK thanks. I did read it and even though a lot of its over my head, I think I have a better grasp on the situation. I guess my only solution is to turn on hwstretch in mame for these types of games rather than have the pixels cutoff. If anyone has a better way please let me know. Thanks again & happy new year! :)

Well, the lines that monitor is capable of displaying rather precedes using hwstretch. At least on my 27" monitor, it doesn't look good. Let me know how it looks on yours, being it's smaller.

You will need to ignore this and adjust it. It should be possible to find a setting which locks at all resolutions. The adjustment is a locking center rather than a fixed exact frequency setting.
