Title: Mame 128U3 Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Post by: Hunk_4TH on November 19, 2008, 07:27:11 pm
Hey guys I've been having a problem with loading UMK3 in the latest Mame update. Each time I try and load it up I get a missing files error. But it works perfectly in previous/older versions. This is from the latest set. Any ideas? And is anyone else having this problem?

You'll have the problem until you update the romset.  Read up on why romsets can potentially change from version to version in the MAMEDEV.ORG FAQ Page:  http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php/FAQ:ROMs#Why_does_MAME_report_.22missing_files.22_even_if_I_have_the_ROMs.3F (http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php/FAQ:ROMs#Why_does_MAME_report_.22missing_files.22_even_if_I_have_the_ROMs.3F)

UMK3 (Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3) used to be listed as a clone of MK3 (Mortal Kombat 3).  This was changed in MAME 0.128u1 so that UMK3 is now it's own parent set (with UMK311, UMK312 now being listed as clones of UMK3) largely since they are, by title and content, different than normal MK3 and thus should be treated as a different game.

Oh wow I didn't realize they separated it from MK3 thanks for the info! I guess I'll have to wait till a new set is released. as I can't find it.

The missing roms are in the MK3 set.   Just look and see which ones are missing when you try to load UMK3 and you'll find them there(in the MK3 set).

OR just copy the whole MK3 set into your UMK3 set/zip and it will work.

Same thing goes for NBA Jam TE and NBA Jam.  (not sure if they did this with any other game)

I never thought of that but it does make sense. Thanks a lot for the tip. Now I can compile back to U3.I'll give it a shot!

Same here. But it's a good thing they did fix it so it isn't listed as a clone now. And the fix did work thanks!

Hello!

I launched UMK3 the way it's mentioned here, but I noticed it causes problems in the intro (only the 4 new characters get their bio's shown) and with the fighting backgrounds (the 4 UMK3 levels cycle several times before the old MK3 stages start to appear), I wonder if it's possible to fix all that?
