Title: My VGT Xbox 360 Stick
Post by: massive88 on November 08, 2008, 12:25:05 am
I just finished this tonight.  Its going to be a legacy trophy for a video game tournament, the first of which I am hosting next weekend.

I looked at real legacy trophies, and they would all cost me more than this stick.  Plus this fits the theme better and is functional!

Anyway, it was only my third stick ever to make, and the first one I have made straight from MDF, using Spray Paint, and having a clear bottom.  Its also my first attempt at "neat" wiring.  While its not perfect, its hella better than my previous wiring job, and overall the box is pretty nice (if you dont look super close at some spots!)

Anyway, thought I would share some pics.

Oh yeah, should also say that the art was stolen from Deviant Art, I mixed it together and put some more red in to match the buttons.  Original art is from Artgem http://artgerm.deviantart.com/ he has some amazing stuff, and some things I want to order prints of...

Looks awesome, good job!  :applaud:

The only thing I would have done differently would be to counter bore the buttons on the front.

I need to build a couple of similar simple controllers for Pinky very soon. How did you achieve the rounded corners? I guess you used a roundover bit for the lengths but what about the four vertical corners?

Thanks for the heads up on http://artgerm.deviantart.com/. I only had a very quick look but there seems to be some awesome stuff on there

Man the corners were more of a pain than they should be.  I used a 1/4" round over bit for my previous boxes, but wanted a bigger roundover on this one.  So I got a 1/2" bit, but it didnt fit inside the plastic faceplate of my router.

I couldnt find a replacement faceplate, so I just took it off and did as good as I could without it.  It wasnt nearly as easy or pretty as it could have been.

The corners were with the router too, just flipped the box and rounded them after doing the legnths.  Then I sanded them to make it look better.  Much sanding involved to get the shape I wanted.  Thats a good thing about working with MDF though, very easy to manipulate through sanding.
