The FE thread reminds me:
I've been having trouble with GameLauncher under XP. I'm using the latest binaries d/led from the GameLauncher website.
The first time I run GL, it hangs when it loads the _GL32.exe subprogram. When I end it using Task Manager and reload GL, it runs fine. The GL website doesn't mention any bugs like this (that I can find, anyhow). Anyone else experience this or know what to do about it? Do I just have a hosed install/config? I don't see any problems with the cfg files...

After it fails the first time and you've end tasked it... DONT start the application again... instead take a peak at the logs and maybe post the logs here (well in the software forum) and/or maybe joing the game luancher mailing list to reach the FE author more direclty...
*Shrug*

Interesting, I had the same problem. Locked up the first time and had to force quit it, but then it worked fine from then on!
Also using WindowsXP.

Excellent advice, rampy! (And, I note, some moderator was kind enough to move this to the Software forum without scolding...) I didn't realize (because I didn't look) that GL kept log files. Excellent programming practice, that.
And okay, maybe I was looking for a cheap fix...I NEED to subscribe to one more mailing list ;).
But I have done so and will report back with anything I hear. In case anyone is interested, here are the log file samples:

I've played around with the relevant graphics card settings in the .cfg files, but can't seem to make any difference.
Of course, it COULD be a bug in Windows....nah...

I know this is a 7-year-old bump, but this thread is one of the only hits when searching google for this issue. :P
I'm actually having the EXACT problem the original post describes where _GL32.exe hangs. I actually moved MAME and Game Launcher from one computer to another. I actually took the slave hard drive out of the old computer (it just had MAME, Daphne, and Game Launcher on it) and am now slaving it off of the new computer, so it's in pretty much the same configuration as it was. Both computers are running Windows XP.
I've also tried re-installing (well, re-extracting GLaunch), and there's nothing at all in the log files that shows anything errors except that it never initializes that "Graphics driver: DirectDraw accel"
Anyone have any revelations in the past seven years? ;D
