Title: Smoked Plexi
Post by: Ghoward on June 14, 2003, 09:33:03 am
I was wondering will a light gun still work though this product.

Also anyone that has installed it in their cab, does the monitor screen when playing games seem to be much darker or not?

Thanks

Gary

In theory it should work, but you'll have to turn up the gain on the light gun. (I don't know the proper term for it.) At least that's how the older guns work. I don't know about the newer ones. In any case, this forces the screen to go even whiter when you press the button. Of course, this is all in theory. Never tried any of it before.

The Act-Labs USB gun works through the smoked plexi on my cabinet just as good as it does without the smoked plexi.  I haven't noticed any difference in its operation.

In theory a light gun might even work better with smoked plexi due to the enhanced contrast between white and black levels.   Most  light guns work by sensing an on-screen change from black to white (anything painted white on the screen is a successful "hit").

Here's my cab running with 1/4" smoked plexi.  Dark? I think not.

Thanks, it's a scratch built.  I will be taking more pics soon and will post more detail in the Project Announcements.
