Title: Whats the Front end for me?
Post by: Hoagie_one on June 13, 2003, 09:32:09 am
Lookin for a front end that  will run multiple emulators.  Specifically Mame\Daphne\z26\ZNES and a few others as well.  I would also like it to be able to show screen shots and have some sort of filtering search method.  The more configurable, the better.

Taking suggestions.

Thanks
Mike

Are you talking filtering on the fly or do you mean s a favorites list?

i like mamewah. i have had some config problems but have resolved all of them. it can do what you are asking, but i dunno about favorites. i just scroll to find the games every time.

I'm sort of a jack of all frontends but a master of none. Mamewah has a favorites list that is easy to add to and switch to. It can also handle multiple emulators and screen shots, but I don't like the way it switches between emulators. (personal preference)

Game Launcher is super easy to set up handles multiple emulators with screen shots, but I don't know how easy it is to make favorites lists and I don't think filtering is an option.

I would start with Mamewah and go from there.

Just as a matter of interest, what would prefer to the way MAMEWAH switches emulators?  All the games merged into one list?

Minwah - i personally would like all games merged into one list, with 2 options; 1) in order of emulator or 2) alphabetically with color coded emulators

I tell you I would like to use Game launcher but the thing that bothers me about this one and some others is having the screen shot behind the game list. It just makes it either hard to view your list or hard to see the screen shot. I guess I've never figured out why people like this kind of view. Right now I'm using Emuloader in full screen mode to get rid of the windows type look. I just wish I could launch my PC games from it.

Good idea.  The reason I did MAMEWAH the way I did, is that I find people tend to know games by system...how many times do you hear people saying 'Have you got Mario Kart on the SNES?' or 'I used to love OutRun in the arcade' etc.

Plus I just like to have console / computer games separate from arcade.  But I do like the idea of being able to choose which emulators to merge - eg merge MAME+Daphne+ZiNc = arcade games.  Maybe in a later version  ;)

I like the way Gamer launcher swithes between emulators with just one button. Mamewah requires a menu optrion to switch. It makes it a bit more difficult to cycle (unless there's a way to do this that I don't know about).

Hit P1 coin to cycle custom lists, and P2 coin to cycle emulator :)
