Any reason other emulators won't run under xp64 pro Null DC etc? Ive read debates here, but my main concern is that If I'm using a duo core processor to run newer version of mame I'm going to need the duo core which means I need an 64bit os. I'm not going vista until they either make it stable or a new os replaces it.

my xp 64 bit amd 64 machine runs mame fine
heck i think it runs better then my gaming machine

You don't need a 64-bit OS in order to use a Core2Duo CPU. The CPU is 64-bt CAPABLE, but it will run 32-bit operating systems with no problems at all.

Vista is unstable? I know there are complaints about it, but I didn't realize stability was one of them.
-
vista is insanely unstable when i personally tried using it
xp 64 bit is what i use tho lol
-
The only stability issues I've had with Vista was when I had the "Intel Turbo Memory" activated. After numerous bluescreens because of that utter crap, I disabled it and prevented it from ever being accessed and Vista has been stable as a rock for me.

Yeah, I would think the OS itself would be plenty stable. Generally drivers cause the stability problems.

I agree. I had a few threads about my problems when I recently upgrade my mame cab pc from a P4 to a core2duo. As you can see, just running a 64bit compiled copy of mame gives you a speed boost in most cases.
The problems I had were drivers related. For some things like my wifi card, they don't have vista x64 drivers. Then, when I ripped out the and stuck a wireless bridge outside the nic, i found that SailorSat's Soft15khz didn't work with Vista x64. :-( I expect that as time goes by, i'll start having problems getting XP x64 drivers.

I would use 64-bit if you don't plan on using an arcade-vga. (no drivers for xp-64). It works great. I was using it, but went back to 32-bit dual core compilation of mame, because I am using the arcade-vga

You can always put in any standard wal-mart available ati or nvidia based gfx card and use Soft15khz under Windows XP x64. works great and i love how it looks. plus nearly any standard ati/nvidia card out there blows away the arcadevga in 3d gaming performance.
