The easiest way in my opinion:
Get Maximus Arcade at www.maximusarcade.com. Everything is point and click, no messy config files to deal with. Great for beginners and it has some beautiful eye candy. The down side; it costs $25 to register, but it has a 30 day fully functional trial period to see if it fits your needs before you buy it.
There's even a check box in the preferences that will automatically throw a shortcut into your startup folder (which will automatically start the program when you start your computer as Windows boots up).
Give it a shot.
You can see it in action here:

thanks for all your ideas folks - i like that maximus arcade cause i have quite a few emulators and roms and the jukebox feature is excellant for my 200gb external hard drive filled with music!!!!!!!
i did a stupid thing tonight - i started to add up what this small project cost me - £350ish - not bad but he wifes moaning that she hasnt seen me for weeks and im spending too much money on it - i think ive got away lightly - but i think i will wait to payday for the front end anyhow. she can be hard to listen to. lol
thanks again

If you introduce your wife to one of the games she will def. get off your back. My wife loves Bubble Bobble so i spend and do what i like because she plays with me every once in a while....it works well
