ok, a few of you have sold me on the wrestling. i think ill get me one. but which one? at the moment im leaning towards 'no mercy'. if you could only have one wrestling game in your N64 collection, which would it be? heres a list (http://au.gamespot.com/games.html?platform=4&category=Wrestling&type=games&mode=top&sort=views&sortdir=asc) to refresh your memories (",)

The WCW vs NWO games. Still tons of fun today if you had a truce with the other player to not use the analog stick to kick out of pins.
Stay away from the Acclaim games. They were terrible.
-
WCW Vs. NWO was good. It is a well rounded game that anyone can play and even do finisher moves in. In the WWF games, you had to memorize special moves to do anything other than punch.
-
WCW/nWo: Revenge is great, but No Mercy improved on all the AKI games in major ways. Either of those are well worth getting.
Though WCW/nWo World Tour and Wrestlemania 2000 are good, they're nowhere near as good as the two I've recommended.
And, yes, avoid Acclaim's games.
In order, you should look for:
1. No Mercy
2. WCW/nWo: Revenge
3. Wrestlemania 2000
4. WCW/nWo: World Tour
Don't pass on the bottom two if they're all you can find. They're great, but try your best to find the top two.
-
just bought WCW/NWO Revenge for $2.76 :woot
ive learnt to take it easy nowadays (now ive bought most of the titles im interested in. why couldnt the penny have dropped early on in the piece?) just have to remember its not the only one ever made ;D
-
Let us know what you think of it. Great price, btw.
-
if you are a fan of imports, go with Virtual Prowrestling 2
it's got all the best from no mercy but has some of the greats from japan, and if i remember right it you can unlock all the movelists from the wwf and wcw games.
-
yeah, I've wanted to get my hands on VPW2 for a while. I'm a big puroresu fan.
-
favorite WCW/nWo: Revenge
-
My favourite was No Mercy. Such a shame AKI never made any more grapplers (Def Jam doesn't count!).
-
Sure def jam counts! If def jam had any kind of edit modes it would be a top pick!
I wish AKI would do a fantasy wrestler. I dont care about licensed characters, I loved Power Move Pro when it came out... If they just made something with completely original everything, and it played like No Mercy and at least looked like Def Jam, it would HAVE to be a best seller. Or do like Fire Pro does to get around the licensing  If you give people the option of adding their own music and videos to the game, they would just make whoever they wanted to stick in it anyway.
Does anyone know if the Galactic Wrestling/Ultimate Muscle games play the same way? AKI did some of those and I just cant find them anymore.
Anyway... No Mercy and VPW2 are definitely the best, mostly they're all the same game, but the later versions would keep adding something obvious (running grapples didnt make it in until No Mercy if I recall)
Since you own the games, you could load the roms up in one of the PC emulators (want to say Project 1964) and by using one of the Video Plugins, edit in whatever you wanted. From changing the ring mats to even grabbing the textures from WCW rasslers and sticking them in No Mercy, there was a pretty big scene for just this a few years ago, and were even entire game edits for WCW, TNA and ROH

N64 games play splendidly on 1964 with an Xbox or 360 controller 8)
-
Oooh... No Mercy edit for ROH? Haven't seen, must find.
-

Yeah, only more arcadey and VERY FREAKIN' HARD!
As for running grapples, yes, No Mercy has them.
I'm sick of Smackdown vs Raw games. Give me AKI or Fire Pro any day.
King of Colloseum II is a good one. Not a fan of Toukon Retsuden games, though.

ROH vs TNA

v1.0 of the mod, http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2FR72JMN
dont know if there were more versions, and its kinda old, id say 2006ish
-mal
there were way more out there, I had done a few individual characters myself since its pretty easy to do the re-textures.

just curious, why would you need to own the game to load the rom into project 64?

I'm guessing because he's trying not to break the forum rules.

Would you really expect Nintendo to openly say that their roms ARE legal?
-mal
-
At least they changed their wording. They used to call emulators illegal, but backed off on that (while still demonizing them).
-
Oh hai... if this is a full blown ROM... then you should be able to inject it into a WAD and drop it onto a Wii...
Must... do....
-
The n64 texture editing doesn't work that way.
you use a certain video plug-in that 'cancels' the in-game textures and replaces them with the users.
i suppose it may be possible to actually inject the user textures in but i wouldn't know if anyone has ever done it. some of the mods also require gameshark codes to correct the in-game models to more closely resemble what they are trying to re-texture, the arena mods are heavy in GS Code.
And it should be noted that the re-texturing can be done on any n64 game (as far as I know) Ive seen some updating Mario 64s and i theorize that the XBLA version of Goldeneye spotted awhile ago may have just been a re-texture (i didnt see enough info or pictures to know either way)

Ah... so it's not a modified ROM... it's a sniffer attached to the ROM.

well, ive had WCW/nWo: Revenge here for over a week now. i went to a friends on saturday, and took it with me, but we ended up drinking and watching movies instead (titan AE. not bad). so i cant yet say what i think of this game (only interested in the multiplayer aspect of it).
might have a chance to road test it this saturday though. had a friend over to play my mame cab. we put in a few sessions on the machine when we both lived in darwin, so it was good for the three of us to get re-aquainted (",) anyway, while we were at it, i showed him the wonders of the N64. like me, he had never played one back in the day. we played goldeneye. he was very impressed. hes getting married soon, bucks party this weekend. we are going to set up the cocktail cab and the N64 on his new deck in the back yard. another friend hires out AV equipment. he'll be supplying a nice projector and screen. should be fun. i just have to pick up another controller by then. i actually have 4, but one is NIB, and i cant bear to get it dirty!
-
Dude, drinking and playing multiplayer Revenge is the best way to play! It always turns real at some point!
-
Playing arcade games in MAME is even better than the N64 while drinking. The best part is thinking you're getting many free credits on your machine while never inserting a coin. ;D

Have you played WCW/nWo Revenge? Especially with 3 other drunks?

I haven't had the pleasure as of yet.
-
Then how can you say what's better?
-
I'm sure it's fun, my point was about MAME only because you normally would have to pay to play but would enjoy it more while drunk not having to pay. There is something different and better about playing an arcade machine over a console, but yeah, we do not have to get into a MAME VS console debate here. The N64 is fun in it's own way.
-
I've got over $800 so far in my cabinet. That's a lot of quarters I've paid.
And no one was debating N64 vs Mame. We were discussing N64 wrestling games.
You bitched about people hijacking your New Orleans thread, so don't come change the subject in here.
-
Stop causing conflicts for no reason and be nice. You were talking about drinking and I made a MAME drinking comment, no big deal, put your gun back in your holster. And you want to talk about me coming off badly, Jesus Christ. :dizzy:
-
No ones to hear of Hemi coming off or on anything.
-
we took the mame cab to my friends last night. his fiance was most impressed. she was trying to describe a game that has hedgehogs in it that came down and attacked you. we figured out it was moon cresta! i always thought of them as rambutans...
anyway, shes already displaced my high scores on it. i dont think shell get to my friends high score of 24000 something though. i hope not. he set it when the cab was in a different state. will be hard for him to have another stab at it ;)
had another look at the wrestling game last night. im warming to it being a cool multiplayer. i dont want to play it until the get together. these things are always more fun when the playing field is kinda level. what about goldeneye? well, maybe i can just use the slapper ;D
-
well, the juries out on the wrestling game. we had our bucks night gaming session. played all sorts on the cab. on the N64 we played mario cart, a little f zero x and the wrestling game. after one 2 on 2 tag game though we were all wondering what had happened? none of us knew what we were doing and it showed! i stil think it might be good as a two player though so ill give it another shot next time someones around. maybe learn a few basic moves.
in the end goldeneye was the clear favourite
-
Just use Scott Norton and powerbomb the opponent over and over and over again.
-
For some reason, I always hated it when my friend would use the European uppercut on me over and over.
Damn you, Fit Finlay!!
-
in revenge, I always went with Raven. He was by far one of my faves in any of the aki games. Hell I dropped $60 (back in the day that was a LOT for a game) just because he was in it.
all my friends were marks for goldberg and hogan...I was the weirdo quoting Raven

Same here. I bought it the day it came out...and I didn't even own an N64!
I used Raven mostly, though it's got a great collection of cruiserweights, as well.
-
oh yea, the cruisers are great in that one
but Aki-Man (Misawa move set) and Raven were my faves
-
Oh yeah, Aki-Man, the Dr Death Steve Williams clone, and that Hayabusa clone. Several great Japanese wrestlers made to look generic that are well worth using. Trying to recall if there was a Muta clone or not...
-
Just use Scott Norton and powerbomb the opponent over and over and over again.
well, i think the guy i was wrestling was Scott Norton now i think about it. I could hardly ever even get back up. not fun. the guy who was scott didnt enjoy it either- too easy!
ill definitely give it another shot as a two player. there is more time to work out whats what then i think...
-
I liked playing as KIM CHEE, because he would shout out "DEE!" when you did moves.
