Hi, just wondering if there is a general consensus for a good video card for running MAME on a TV through S-Video? I might be eventually moving to an arcade monitor, so that is also something to consider. Are all S-Video out cards basically the same?
Thanks,
Andy

as I understand the best is a ATI Radeon 7500 with s/video out. Also its best that it is the original one not the "powered by ati".

Pretty much any "Built by ATI" video card with s-video out is fine. I bought an older, cheap 8MB ATI card off e-bay for $6, put it in my cabinet and it works perfect. You don't need anything fancy.

Thanks for the responses. Is there any easy way to tell if it's 'built by ATI'? Some of the item descriptions on Ebay give very little information.
Thanks!

For example, would this one be OK?

I couldn't find any old 8 meg cards. Also one reply says to stay away from 'powered by ATI' and one says that 'built by ATI' cards are OK. I'm confused!!!
Also, would this one work with AdvanceMAME later on if I decided to get a well gardner D9200 arcade monitor? Or do the older 8 meg cards have something that the newer ones don't?

built by ati means ati brand, powered by ati means low budget brand ati sells parts to..

I see thanks.
Is there a significant difference between the two when running through S-Video?

Absolutely.
After running a "Built by ATi" Rage Fury and then switching to a "Powered by ATi" Radeon I was astounded. There was something that just seemed "muddy" about the image on the Radeon board. Almost like composite, but you could read it.
At that point I understood why there is so much confusion over quality based on inputs. "Built by" is important.
