I have my cab all set up now to take a 19" horizontally mounted arcade monitor.
There are a lot of games both horizontal ( defender, street fighter etc ) and vertical ( galaga, pac-man etc ) that I will want to play when I am finally finished ( seems to be taking 4eva ).
My question is this. Am I going to get a decent game on the vertical games or will I end up wanting to build another cab with vertically mounted monitor?
I know this has been discussed a lot but I really need a lot of opinion here.
Thankyou.
P.S. rotation is not an option.

that really is dependant on personal preference... a true hardcore vertical games fan would really want a vertical monitor for maximum real estate...
But I think a horizontal monitor that displays vertical games in "letter box" mode is the best compromise... (the other way around horizontal games squashed on to a vert monitor is just ridiculously small/wasted space )
That's my opinion... check out oscar's pics of his 19" arc mon with arcade VGA card (http://www.oscarcontrols.com/arcadevga/index.shtml) where he kindly did some shots of PAC and Donkey Kong displayed on a horizontal display....

PS if you have the time/money/space ... of course go for 2 cabinets... I also like the idea of a cocktail with 3 control stations so, in effect YOU rotate to change perpective, instead of the monitor =P

I LIKE IT! Never thought of that one. I think I'll end up with two cabs, I wonder what my wife will say ( I think I already know lol ).

Hmmmm I was hoping for a bit more feedback from those that have gone --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- me.
Can someone who has done this with their cab comment?

I thought I answered the first question reasonably well... or are you referring to the cocktail question? you can check out smack's mondo turtle head cocktail (either browse project forum or do a in page search on the examples page for turtle or mondo) maybe re-post the question in main forum if you wanted to discuss the merits of 3 sided cocktails in a more general fashion? or amI totally confused as to what you want (to ask?)?

Speaking from my own personal experience...
My first upright cab had a 19 inch horizontal monitor in it.
Horizontal games looked mint and the vertical games were good enough to play, but after playing a quick game of Galaga on a 19inch horizontal montior one night while I was out... I NEEDED to have the games El Mondo...
Don't get me wrong, the game's scale will be proportional (just with the letterboxes on the sides.) If you're running a powerhouse of a computer you might consider enabliong a bezel to fill up the black space. There are some tweaked bezels out there that are sized to fit on the sides of verical games. (Enabling bezels will tax your system ;))
I noticed that you mentioned that "rotation was not an option" so I assume that you don't have a choice at this point.
From what I've caught on the board, people running 27 inch monitors have mentioned that the vertical games look the size of a 19 inch vertical (or close to it.)
I guess you could do a 27 inch horizontal monitor if not in this project but in a future one.
For me, the cocktail idea worked pretty mint, I can play just about anything and have the best of both worlds. (Plus 4 way games of gauntlet, paddlemania, super sprint, etc.) I pretty much "sit and rotate" ;)
If you build another cab, you could go vertical and add 2 rotary sticks in leiu of standard 8 ways to open up games like Ikari Warriors and stuff.
There's my ramble for the night. ;D

Sorry Rampy your reply was extremely helpful. I wasn't saying that YOU weren't helpful I was just hoping for more comment in general.
