Title: 5.1/7.1 Etc Receiver with Only 2 Speakers
Post by: SteveJ34 on July 30, 2008, 10:37:34 pm
The wise members of this forum always have the answer....my age and lack of free time to keep up with technology may show with my question.

I am looking for a used receiver to add some tunes to my man's room...the garage.

Checking Craigslist etc...

An old school Left/Right 2 Channel stereo receiver with 50-100w per channel would be fine as I am not going for a super system here but have not been able to find one as of yet.

If you have a 5.1 or 7.1 system and only want to run (2) speakers, what channels do you use and/or are these designed to bet set to run only (2) speakers?

You can certainly use a 5.1 / 7.1 receiver to drive only 2 receivers.  You want to choose left and right FRONT speakers.  You'll want to set the receiver to output stereo.  They all should have that mode.

No problem setting it up that way.

I have an old Pioneer 5.1 system I'll let you have for free if you want to pick it up (Arlington at 20 and 360).  It's about 15-17 years old but works great.  I just replaced it with a newfangled digital setup and don't have a place for it.
