Title: And we thought AOL was bad....
Post by: RTSDaddy2 on July 14, 2008, 11:31:44 am
 :badmood:

I just spent 15 minutes trying to get my Vonage account cancelled.  What should have been a 5 minute call  wound up taking forever...and now I'll have to call them back at a later time so that I can find out what the wife wants to do about keeping our current home number, because once they pull the plug, that's it.

What I am so  :censored: upset about is that I explained to this woman why we were unhappy...and instead of just saying "thank you for allowing us to serve you," she starts on their new limited calling plan at $14.99.

Me - "Ma'am, I don't care to hear about it.  Please canel."

Rep - "Well, I know you're mainly upset about tech issues...let me let you talk to the main techs here in our office and maybe we can get the problem striaghtened out."

Me - "Cancel the (damned, was what I thought, but didn't speak) account.  We want nothing to do with your company."

Rep - "I understand. I was just trying to tell you...."

Me- "Just cancel it."

Rep - "I undestand you are upset over your lack of service, and having to pay $32 for it (which was supposed to have been a max of $29, but state taxes come in), but if you....."

Etc, ad nauseum.  Now I'll have it all to go through again tomorrow.

Nothing will ever beat AOL during its death spiral. I repeated "cancel the account" for over 20 minutes and wanted to reach thru the phone and kill the guy.

Actually, I concur - I just needed a place to rant and rave.  I feel better now. :)

Been through it as well. I made the mistake of signing up for something online so I could get something else free, then cancelled ASAP. Well, I say ASAP. I called, but it took forever. I had this women with the most monotone voice telling me crap I didn't care about, and I'm just saying again and again, "I don't care. Just cancel"

"What didn't you like about the service?"

"Everything. Cancel"

"If you were to rate the helpfulness of this call on a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate it?"

"Depends. Have you cancelled it?"

"Yes sir, your cancellation is being processed."

"Then I'd give it a 10."

I always thought a good gimmick for a company would be for them to cancel your current provider if you signed up with them.

My BIL went through this last month with the same company.  His tin-can sounding connection was always getting dropped, even after "tweaks", to the point that he decided to increase his cel phone plan to unlimited minutes (since he was always resorting to using his cel phone after his "home" phone dropped his call anyway ::) ).

After factoring in the cost of the taxes and service, jumping up to unlimited minutes turned out to be a dollar or so cheaper than what he was spending for x minutes and Vonage for the house.

Now that it's a week later, are you finally rid of them?

Just curious, why are you cancelling Vonage?  We have them and haven't had a problem yet.  Sound quality is good w/ no connection issues.

RTS, have you considered what David Foley would do in this situation? ;D

I have Vonage at my office and have experienced only one service issue in the last couple of years.  Unfortunately, it's been happening lately....   When dialing long distance, often the call never goes through.  Local calls are fine but any long distance call takes a few attempts to get connected.
