Title: Skeeball
Post by: CarnivalDude on July 09, 2008, 12:25:20 am
Thanks to Ixliam and Unclet, I am building a skeeball cabinet. I hope to post the plans when I am through.

My church does a carnival every year. We normally borrow a homemade skeeball game from another church, but this year could not get it. I found Ixliam's pictures on this site and have been busy building one based on his plans. I have to have it done by Friday so bear with me, but I will try to get my plans posted by the end of next week.

Here's a picture from Thursday night. Not much progress was made past this point before the carnival on Friday.

It played real well. For simple construction, the design is very forgiving. You can make a lot of mistakes and it still turns out well.

If there is interest in plans, let me know. Not seeing a lot of responses, I'm not putting a lot of priority to it...

I think it looks cool.  Is the ball return system fairly simple?

Very simple as long as you get everything lined up right. For the carnival, it happened to be sitting on a slope towards the ball return, so no problems at all! I didn't do electronic scoring like Ixliam, so my job was *much* easier. We put vinyl "shelf liner" in the track to cut down on noise. I didn't have enough room to add a bean bag at the bottom of the channel, but that would be a good improvement on this design.

The channel under the targets dumps out on a board that slants down to the ball holder area. Originally I had the board too high on the left and had to drop it lower. The balls didn't have enough room to get out of the channel and on to the board! Lowering a couple of inches was no problem. I also had to make a quick adjustment to give the board a little more slant towards the front, maybe a 1/2 to 3/4 inch. As long as the board has slope down from back to front and left to right, the balls don't get stuck.

I also didn't choose to add the ball return lever. For the carnival, it is better that the person running the game controls when the next person starts. I added a wood block in the ball holder area that is lifted out to start the next game.

I have a first draft, but it exceeds the file size limit here... any suggestions? It's around 2M.

I'm sure saint would host the file right here on byoac, maybe just ask him.
