I borrowed a router and bits from my uncle and was excited to see that he had a flush trim bit in his set. Problem is, I don't think the bit is long enough to do the job.
I have one of my cabinet sides cut and wish to use it as a template for the other side. The bit I have is a flush trim D: 1/2" B: 9/16" L:2-5/32"
I'm guessing this bit won't do the trick if I need to cut 3/4 MDF. I am going to break down and buy a new bit even though I'll only get to use it once. What size bit should I get?

Can you not adjust the depth of cut on the router?
If not take a cut at full depth and then undo the arbour and pull the cutter out 3/16" and then cut the remaining lip.
Just make sure there is plenty of shaft being gripped in the collect.

The depth is set as low as it can go on the router (I think) and the bearing is just coming up short of touching my template as you can see.
You're saying I should pull out the bit a little bit, make the cut, then put it all the way back in and finish it?

that won't work, you need a longer cut length.
you could do as you say if you had a pattern cutting bit. bearing on top.
edit: well opposite of what you say, but still two passes.

What you need is 1/2" O.D. x 1-1/2" C.E.L. x 1/2" Shk., two flute, carbide tipped. The 1-1/2" Cut Edge Length will solve your problem as stated above.
