Sorry if this has been asked before, I've tried searching but can't seem to find anything on it. Its such an easy to reproduce problem id expect to see a lot of threads on it already.
Ive tried the Mame command line emulator (the one from mamedev website) both in multiple frontends and on it's own. For some reason as soon as I leave the game all key bindings get reset, and I end up having to launch a game, and manually setup key bindings for that game, each game I load, everytime I start the emulator.
Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks for any help.
If it helps I settled on Mala frontend, but like I said, it does the same thing out of the emulator as well.

Maybe the file is read-only, or NTFS permissions aren't allowing write permission for that user?

Yeah, what ShanMan said...
Are you by any chance running it off a CD or DVD? That would cause the problem as well.

Thanks, Ill try checking the properties, as Im not running it off a cd/dvd. Maybe theres a chance something didnt unzip correctly. Maybe ill try reinstalling it as well. Im hoping the read only thing solves it though.
I cant check atm, im stuck at work, but after seeing the MAME machine booted up for the first time, Im heading straight for it as soon as I get in the door ;D

...as Im not running it off a cd/dvd....
CDs & DVDs are read only, so if you copied from them, the folders will still be read only on the harddrive.
OTOH, if you're run mame from the DVD, make sure the cfg_directory option in mame.ini (maybe also nvram_directory & memcard_directory & state_directory & snapshot_directory) are saving to your harddrive in a writable folder, so you can save those stuff.

Edit. NM Problem solved. but ended up with a third problem now. now when I launch a game it launches the mame emulator instead of the actual game ( I tried reinstalling mamewah, but im pretty certain I got the same files.)
