Title: Touch Screen not responding in lower right area
Post by: govee on June 23, 2008, 08:15:22 am
I have an ELO Touch Screen (TS) that was working fine until last night. I have put the screen in a old console radio in place of the phono. I originally had it placed on top of the phono opening with a frame surrounding the TS. I really didn't like that look so this weekend I took the stereo apart and removed the existing mounting deck and built a new one that put the radio/amp on a similar plane to the TS (which now mounts from underneath the deck). I like this look much better, but after I started it all up I found that the TS does not respond in the lower right corner. I performed an alignment as I could see when it responded to other areas it was misaligned and it responds to the first target displayed but when it moves to the second, which is in the lower right, it does not respond and eventually times out. I did use foam strips between the deck and screen to protect the sensors.

What do I need to check?
Could the screen be mounted to tightly to the deck?

Thanks,
Govee

The first thing i would try is to remove the touchscreen from the cab and see if it works correctly then. If so then at least you know the screen isn't broken and you can just experiment with the mounting.

I too mounted my elo this weekend on the first attempt it was too tight and would not respond at all.  I removed it and provided more clearance and it was fine.

I had to decrease the size of the foam spacer and reattach and all is well. Whew!!

Yeah, you need to make sure nothing is touching the overlay. SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) touchscreens are very delicate that way.

The transducers are VERY delicate.
So you never want to apply to much mounting pressure around the outer edges.

And I hate it when people "jab" at a touchscreen thinking that will make it work better or more responsive or something. Just throwing that out there. (we have to replace them all the time because of that)
