Come on guy! What were u thinking ??? :banghead:

A sawzall??? How did he get it into his game room? Common sense: use the same method to get it out!
-
"I'd prefer to get rid of both sets at once".....
We'd prefer to get rid of a-h's like you at once !
-
The ATARI was bad enough!
But to do that to a TRON !!!!!
-
Talk about making trying to sell off all the parts of an arcade.
Next: "I'm selling bezel shards from my cabinet I couldn't fix."
-
Could be the same jerk that had this auction (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=65774.0).
Too bad I didn't keep track of who it was that did that.
Mayhaps we should keep track of sellers who do bad things to cabs in order to sell them?
-
Well, that sucks. Maybe someone could buy em cheap and rebuild the front and back panels?
-
and had to take a sawzall to the cabinets to get them out of my gameroom.
Someone need's to take a sawzall to him !
-
Mayhaps we should keep track of sellers who do bad things to cabs in order to sell them?
Why? What are you gona do? Go beat him up? Destroy his car?
What are you? Cabinet Nazi's?!
Plenty of people do things to things. On TV, they took a decent
Delorian and trashed it into some monstrosity. You can find perfectly good
stuff tossed out on the curb all the time. Should these people get
tracked and beaten too?
For sure, Ill bet there is something you broke/trashed that Someone
would have been upset about. Maybe you should off yourself too while
you at it.
Get real. And get over it.
If its not yours, you have no right to tell others what they can and
can not do to them.
Weather it sucks or not, is irrelevant.

The weather definitely sucks and is very relevant!
:P

Is it a full moon again already? :laugh2:
If it doesn't bother you at all to see games get shredded, perhaps you're in the wrong place.
Maybe there is a PlentyOfPeopleDoThingsToThings.com where you can go to see random people do random things to random things.

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it... The DeLorean was on overweight, underpowered gimmick of a car cobbed together with Volvo parts. For some crazy reason, Back To The Future seems to have left it with the legacy of a supercar.
It couldn't REALLY travel through time, and probably couldn't even get to 88mph in the space allotted in the movie.
In arcade terms, it was a Spy Hunter 2.
Somebody please get me a Tylenol. ;D

You know, I think that BTTF may have been what Xiaou2 was referring to ...
:dunno

Xiau's right though... heheh. ;D
People junk cabs all the time. What's hilarious here though is the guy thinks he can sell off the pieces for $150. Like anyone's got a side-less Tron sitting around. :laugh2:

They just shove it up against the wall and hope no one notices. ;D

Possibly he finished the basement and by doing so made it impossible to get the cab back out. Trim, drywall, finished doorways, etc...
Would it be dumb to finish a room around your cabs and later not be able to get them out.....uh yea. :) Looks like this is what might have happened. He probably got sick of the games and the finish work around the door became more important than the cabs.
I'm trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt that possibly he didn't hack the cabs up for the fun of it...
Edit: Second thought, why would he move games in and then finish a room?? :dizzy:

There is an extremely high level of nostalgia and emotion tied to a Tron cab. It's a piece of history. There are many works of art like Van Goghs sitting in private collections. If some ---meecrob--- were to cut the canvas out of the frame, and try to sell the empty frame on ebay, it would be no less shocking. If it does not shock you, then you're on the wrong forum buddy :D
At the very least the astronomic levels of negative karma should bite him in the butt very soon. :badmood:
-
Edit: Second thought, why would he move games in and then finish a room?? :dizzy:
Same reason I did: Ive had my games for a couple years before finishing my basement. I won't have any problems getting my games out of the basement, but not everyone plans ahead as well as I do... ;D
-
Why? What are you gona do? Go beat him up? Destroy his car?
Wouldn't matter, He's selling that piece of crap anyways. Probably to fund the doorway he needs to get the rest of his cabinets out of his game room.

The delorian was an interesting car.. not that I was every looking to
buy one, nor really cared much about it. The point was that some people
consider them of value... yet others could care less and trash them.
Tron is a great game. Its one of my Favorites. The cabinet is one of the
better artistic designs... only topped by a select few, such as the Environmental
Disc's of Tron cab.
There are plenty of Trons out there, in collectors hands, in good to great
condition.
This isnt a situation where theres only like 5 of them. Or even worse...
a game like Bouncer - which only one is known to exist, and there is no
word as to where it may be. Desecration of the one and only may be
cause for words of organized beatings :P
The reality is that many people who get games, cant fix them, and do not
want to justify the cost of someone else to repair them. Once they die,
they take up space... and sooner or later, they are parted out and or
destroyed.
Unless you have the money to buy every Tron cab out there... then
getting bent to the point of organizing an actual witch hunt... is
really absurd. Just mentioning such a plan is just about as much
or a 'Threat' as anything Ive ever heard... and could call for legal actions.
Personally, I have a Sega Turbo. Was my first cabinet. I paid 300 for it.
Great game.. but really, I dont play it all that often. The sub driver is
messed up, and it took me 3 different ebay auctions to get a set of pedal
optics that actually worked.
If the board dies, I wont be repairing it. Even in excellent condition, you
can barely sell a Turbo for $350.
Now, I wont be cutting the thing in half... but it may get the Part-out / mame
treatment.
On the other hand... my Spy Hunter will always get fixed. Its a much better
game, and I can justify the costs in many ways.
Want to buy my turbo? Ill sell it to you half working and cab beat up, for $500. Too much? To bad. Thats what I PAID. NOT YOU. Dont like it? Tough cookies. (cost + delivery gas + repair parts )
Come on, put me on your list and come beat me up.
Hmm, Maybe Ill buy a tron, with my own cash, just to dismember it,
just to get on your list.
Im not defending people destroying things. Im simply against people telling
others what they can and can not do with their OWN PAID FOR property!
As well as making THREATS towards them.

I can't really argue with this ... the "good" collectors that I know have destroyed far more cabs than have the "bad" folks.

Somebody suggested that folks should keep track of sellers who do this, presumably so that people who don't like cabinet butchers can avoid buying from them (a reasonable proposal).
The only suggestion of threats came from you (and, boy, were they some good ones!)
At the end end of the day, before you rant, remember that comprehension counts and sarcasm is funny.
Otherwise, you'll be threatening to put folks in the hospital or morgue ...
;)

This is starting to sound pretty close to a previous thread about a certain story in the NY Times, but I dont think anybody was really going to physically harm someone over such a cab. I do, however, agree that people should watch such "threats" these days as things can often get blown out of proportions concerning empty, childish threats.
I also agree that while Tron is beloved by many, everybody who wants to own one will have no trouble finding one. Of course this is no reason to senselessly destroy anything, but still. Its like getting bent out of shape if someone wrecks a new Mustang. Sure its a shame, but there is thousands just like it out there.

Xiaou2, I'm sorry that your comments as of late have become rather asinine. Did you actually bother to read my post for its face value or is glomming for non-existent information such an integral part of your life that you really can't think in any other way?
Xiaou2, take your own advice. Get real. ::)
Have a nice day. ;D
-
Holy crap I love this place
-
The delorian was an interesting car..
Uh ..... That's Delorean
-
"Marty, you've got to come back to the future.. your kids are dismembering Tron cabs!" :laugh2:
-
lol. Good one vertygo :D
-
Sad, but the art doesn't look too minty anyway. For every sawzall cut, there's someone else cutting out fresh panels for their restore.
Cycle of life. It's a catch-22; remind people of the value of x cabinet, they put a silly price on it. Like this guy. $37.50 a panel?
-
I mean for what he could have sold the cabs for vs. the 'saws all' method what was this dude thinking. Yea.. that is the funny part, thinking that you can make money selling the sides...
This dude could be a poster boy for the "Why someone should not do drugs" campaign... ;)
-
A buddy of mine has his game room in the basement. It was easy to get the games down there, we just slid them down one stair at a time. He said if he ever moves and the new owner doesn’t want them he's going to take an ax to them.
I think it would be a shame, but I see his point, it wouldn’t be worth breaking my back to get them out of there.
-
To make it easier getting them out, take the monitors and glass out beforehand.
-
Yep, and if it has a big removable back panel like my centipede does, remove that too. I moved my centipede up stairs by myself (with the help of a hand truck)!
-
an appliance dolly makes it much easier.
Wish I still had access to the stair climber at my old job. It was electric, and would climb stairs like nothing.
-
I'd agree with you in principle Peale, but my dolly with stair runners adds a good 50 lbs in itself. :(
-

Also, if it has a big transformer(s), remove them as well. Atari's power blocks add an extra 20 or so pounds. Same thing with the MCR power blocks....
-

It's not the weight so much as it is getting a grip on it. With a dolly you have several places to grab, and if you have to take a break moving it you can just tip it and balance in on the balance point. Can't do that easily sliding it up stairs.

The new model looks (and is supposed to handle) a lot better.

As far as I've read, that is not the car. What they're doing is building cars with a combination of new and New Old Stock parts. If you search for DeLorean concepts, you'll find a bunch of different concept drawings, but all they are is drawings.
http://www.delorean.com/sales.asp
When they're out of stainless bodies, they will also be fiberglass bodied. :P
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20378293/
-
Besides, they ripped that design from the Diablo, amongst other things. And the vettes were fiberglass....
-
I've seen this mentioned in just about every article, but there's never a why.
The one limiting factor is the doors. The company has enough for about 500 cars, though it's important to keep some in stock for repairs and such. Beyond that, Espey said, the company is studying its options.
What, exactly, is the limiting factor on the doors? They don't know how to reverse engineer the hydraulics or something?
-
Looks more like a Tron lightcycle to me.
-
The new model looks (and is supposed to handle) a lot better.
A new model would not be a true Delorean.
John Delorean passed away a few years back.
Any other car without him being involved would be a crock!
As far as i know? He only had a daughter. (could be wrong)
But i don't think she is in the automotive industry at all ?
That place in TEXAS bought the name sake
And the remaining stock of parts from the old factory in Ireland.
-
Any other car without him being involved would be a crock!
I feel the same way about Atari. However....
The article does say that the guy did call Delorean up and asked him what he thought of it.
-
I think the guy asked John Delorean, would it be ok to use the name Delorean.
After the coke ordeal John D. went through,
He probably wasn't allowed anything to do with the automobile manufacturing business again.
Just guessing that though?
Or probably nobody wanted to back him with $$$.
But all that aside, The guy was an icon.
The main reason DMC went under was, He tried to save $$$$ by,
putting the plant in Ireland, With the tax breaks and all.
But with all the civil unrest there at the time, It didn't help matters at all !
If he would have put the plant in Detroit, Things may have turned out better?
Who knows ? :dunno
-

Maybe using an under powered engine coupled with poor mechanical reliability and an inadequate chassis. Then bolting on a high end price tag might have something to do with the downfall of the car. :dunno

Down the road a TURBO engine was going to be offered, As well a V8 was being planned.
But you know, Back in 1981 a V8 wasn't the most popular engine.
Kinda the reason Ford was putting 4 cylinders in MUSTANGS.
As far as an inadequate chassis, PONTIAC basically copied it for their FIERO.
Poor mechanical reliability? I believe around 9,000 were made?
6,500 are estimated to still be on the road.
That's pretty damn good for a 27 year old car, That was made for only 2 years.
The high end price tag, Probably had something to do with Stainless Steel and Gull Wing
Doors.
You know, Not every car had that and is basically rust proof.
-
Its always a problem when you build a slow car that looks fast.
The Fiero was a perfect example of this, and it's gone as well. Ford also wound up putting V8's in Mustang 2's. They were still not very powerful by todays standards, but relatively powerful for their time.
There is a car called the Bricklin which was similar in concept to the Delorean. It was a sporty looking car that's claim to fame was safety. It was also a failure, but wasn't lucky enough to have a movie turn it into a legend.
In many ways, it was better than the DeLorean. Very similar concepts, better powertrain, but no cool stainless body.
-
Price tag has nothing to do with what a car's actually "got". Ford sold a "luxury" SUV that was basically an Expedition with a few "nicer" looking plastic parts and new name, but the price tag was $20,000 higher just because it looked fancier!
