I finally played Portal. Jesus, that's the most fun I've had with a videogame in a long time. You can get a stand-alone copy, without the rest of Orange Box on Steam for $20. Recommended.

It's definately an amazing game. I'd also recommend you play the Flash Map Pack which is the best mod/map pack for Portal, IMO. http://portalmaps.wecreatestuff.com/
It has much more challanging puzzles and introduces a number of new concepts to the game (such as wall you can shoot through, but can't walk though).

We'll see. I have very little gaming time. Thanks for the tip, though. I may check it out. Since school got out, I've been catching up on some games I missed. Finished Raving Rabbids and Beyond Good and Evil, and I'm most the way through The Longest Journey 2. I did Portal, but since I finished the story I might just have to be finished with it and move onto something else, so I can cram in as many as possible before school starts again in August. It's not that I'm not in love with the play mechanics of Portal; I just want to catch as many of the great games as I can.

Fair enough, but just so you know it's only about 3 1/2 - 4 hours of gameplay and the storyline takes place before the original Portal game.

Hmm . . . there's a story? I was imagining just new levels to play through. If the dialog is anything close to the quality of the original, I'm probably sold.

They mostly use the same dialog as the original until the end of the game where they included a fair amount of new dialog which sounds pretty close to the original GladOS. There is also a new final boss and I really liked the end scene. The game's not quite as good as the original, but Valve could pretty easily buy the mod and sell it as-is as an official expansion to Portal.

I agree, Portal was the most fun I've had playing a computer game since I first played Quake online. Great great game.
I will definately have to give that expansion a look-see.....
