Title: 24/25" TV with S-Video and NO side speakers?!?!?
Post by: ahofle on June 02, 2003, 03:53:45 pm
I'm beginning to think the MAME Cabinet gods do not want me to build a cabinet.  I looked all over town, best buy, circuit city, walmart, sears, KMart, etc.  Not one single 25" or smaller TV with Svideo that would work in my cabinet.  Either they don't have s video at all (95%), or they have those side mounted speakers which cause the TV to be too wide (I only have 25.25" of width max).  I know I could fit a 27" in there, but that is a bit too big for me (and the only reason I'm not springing for a WG-D9200) and I was hoping for 24 or 25" max.

I thought Apex had a 20" with s-video input at best buy. I am not certain about this but you might want to double check. It may have speakers on the sides but at 20" it wouldn't matter. Unless 20" is too small for you. Good luck.

Ya isn't it funny that the 19 and 20 inch models have more features than the 25" ones?  I was hoping for a little bit bigger than 20", otherwise I'm tempted to just use a PC monitor.  I was thinking a 21 inch monitor would look small though given I have over 25" of horizontal space -- on the other hand I didn't want a 27" monitor that barely even fits.  O well, I guess I'm too picky. :)

At first I thought a 21" monitor might be too small especially for vertical games but it was all I could fit in my little cab. After 1+ years, I don't ever remember thinking the screen was too small or wishing I had a bigger one. Once you play the games, you don't really notice the size of the screen.  I have never had anyone say anything when they come over either. Although, I have to admit, it is more fun playing on the 100" screen at my friends. :) Good luck.

Why don't you try Wal-mart? They have had a pretty good selection of semi-generic TV's lately. They're bound to have something you're looking for.

Ya I tried there.  Either the TVs are 27/32" (too big for me) and the 2 or 3 25" ones they had did not have S Video.  Sigh.

Here is one 25" TV I have found, but no one local carries it, so tack on $70 shipping :(

In case anyone else is looking for a similar TV, here is another one I found:

And I think someone mentioned this one:

D9200 is only 24.5 inch or so wide..would fit your cabinet.

Well u prob dont want to do this but why not convert S-Video to composite for the tv u can find around neer u?

If the size fits the cab i think the trade-off from S-Video to composite is a good 1 i can't tell a difference in quality :)

But then again thats prob just me  ::)
