just saw this on an imax screen. this rocks! i really enjoyed it. robert downey junior is great, as is jeff bridges (he really makes that bald headed, bearded look work!) and gwyneth was great too.
oh, and there is a little bit after the credits if you havent watched it yet. i always stay until after the credits (even though the cleaners make me feel guilty) and sometimes you get a little reward. i also play 'spot mo henry' in the credits...

I had never heard of this guy. Jesus . . . apparently he's good at cutting negatives.
-
You mean Gal (not guy)
-
On that note... if you go see Harold and Kumar 2, stay until after the credits...
-
I'm planning on going to see Iron Man tomorrow night, been looking forward to it since the first trailer...

I was debating whether to see this or not (based on the flops in the comic movie past) but if you like it then I probably will too.

This morning I listened to Mr Movie Phone on a local radio station, and he's usually on the mark. He says this was the best comic book to movie he’s seen.
He said that the first block buster movie of the summer usually reflects how good the rest of the summer movies will be and with that in mind this is going to be a great summer for movies.
He added that he had no idea who Iron Man was so he had no expectations for this movie. He was suprised at how gret the movie was and now Iron Man is his favorite hero.
If anyone is interested he also said that Made of Honor was the crappiest piece of crap in crap town.
-

Of course... my wife wants to see that... :badmood:

LOL
His ending comment was if your wife is under 40 you'll be forced to watch Made of Honor, and after watching that turd she’ll have no excuse not to see Iron Man with you.

He said that the first block buster movie of the summer usually reflects how good the rest of the summer movies will be and with that in mind this is going to be a great summer for movies.
I don't really understand why, or even how this could be true. For the rest of the summer movies to be good, multiple unrelated studios have to have actually made good movies. These movies have been in production for many many months. I don't understand how the quality of Iron Man can possibly have a positive effect on the quality of dozens of unrelated films from a myriad of unrelated studios. If it's not able to positively affect the rest of the summer releases, I don't know how else it could have any predictive ability.
With that said, Iron Man does look really good. I really can't wait to see it.

He didn't mention any reasoning behind the claim. I think it was just an observation he's made from past summers.

Me, personally, I can't wait for the new Batman movie! :applaud:
-
I'm waiting for the new James Bond movie

i too didnt know anything about ironman. i look forward to most movies. its kinda a hobby by now. this how i started to notice mo henry' s name in the credits. one day i thought id google it and sure enough, she (yeah, does sound like a guys name doesnt it) is very prolific. and according to wiki, im not the only one to look for her name. i think its a bit like that 11:11am phenomenom. once you start noticing, you cant help but keep noticing...
i dont think she did ironman by the way...
-
i too didnt know anything about ironman.
I've seen it mentioned here a lot of times already though.
-
what i meant was that i only had the vaguest idea that there was even a comic book called ironman, let alone having read it and know what the story is!
-

Ah indeed. I never read an Iron man comic book either.
-
I know very little about Iron Man too. I knew his real name was Tony Stark, and everything else I know about him is from playing Marvel Super Heroes. ;D

This is pretty much my exact reaction, except the favorite hero comment.
Ill also add that this was my favorite portrayal of a playboy in any movie Ive ever seen, Stark had me laughing out loud several times. I was highly entertained.
And they had a cool outtro, which Im a fan of since xXx.
-
I just saw it. I liked it. Not quite Spiderman 1 and 2 or X-men. But it's really good. Gwenyth Paltrow is way hot, of course. That certainly helps. There's a lot of really great humor in there. Had me laughing ---my bottom--- off a few times. The end boss was a little bit . . . um . . . ---smurfing--- retarded. But I've got a soft spot in my heart for comic book movies. I can look past these things.

watch for stan lee. this time his cameo is as another famous personality. it didnt occur to me at first and maybe he and this other guy has some kinda rivalry. i was thinking that looks more like stan lee than X. in the credits though it says stan lee as himself
-
I saw it last night and thought it was great. My friend made a very funny comment towards the end after the credits (without giving anything away he basically said the guy is supposed to be white). My only complaints are the fight with war monger (or iron monger) was kinda short and they only played "Iron Man" during the credits when it would have been nice during the break out scene like in the trailer.
I hope a sequel gets made. I mean they made one for fantastic four so something that didn't suck should get one too right? Right?
-

He was just mistaken by Stark for the person we're not mentioning. Stan turns around and is kinda like WTF?
Anyway, went last night and we loved it. Robert Downey Jr was great. Nice and smirky. like his "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" character.
-

Heh . . . I don't think you have much to worry about on that front. It's safe to assume that Robert Downey Jr. is contractually obligated to come back for two sequels. But this movie wasn't merely good. It is also going to be a smashing box office success, probably pulling in more than $200 million in domestic box office receipts and pushing toward $1 billion globally. Trust me . . . everyone involved wants a piece of that. Even if Downey wasn't already obligated to return, there's something about $20-30 million dollars dangling in front of your face that will make you do pretty much anything. :)
-
It should also be mentioned that if you do go and see it, stay until the end of the credits.
-

You mean like the very first post says?
Yeah, someone really should mention it.... ;D
-
Just saw this tonight and it has some of the longest credits I have ever seen, my guess was it listed about 8000 people.
-

you know, i actually thought the credits weren't all that long (for a sfx movie). which was nice...
-
They fooled you a bit in that often the people were listed in 3 columns, each about 25 people tall, meaning 75 names on the screen at a time at some points.

well thats not accurate. That guy is black in the ultimate comics. sorry if I gave anything away.
Also, Stan Lee's cameo was actually pretty funny. I cant wait for the sequel, it'll prolly have buttloads more CGI, cause you know they are bringing out the War Machine!
I liked this movie more then spiderman/xmen which is saying alot because I really like the first 2 of both of those "trilogies"
-

What I meant to say is that it should be mentioned more than once. ;)

I saw it this weekend too  I must say that it's indeed one of the better comic adaptions. Robert Downey must have watched a lot of "House" episodes though. I think they even casted Hugh Laurie first but he had other commitments. The only problem with the movie was that it was too short (at 2 hours). Can't wait for the sequel!
-

whats weird is the movie FELT short, like 75 min; then I walked outside and was like wtf? its 2 hours later!

Looks like Iron Man broke $100 million on opening weekend (and over $200 million worldwide since Wed), making it the second highest opening weekend of non-sequels (second only to Spiderman). It has surpassed industry expectations which were in the $70-90M range, and has the possibility of reaching $250M domestic since great reviews and word of mouth should keep the theaters pretty full for a while.
I think its safe to say a sequel or two is going to be made ;D
Oh, and I also thought it was a great movie.

That might explain why they chose to go that route then. I've only ever seen the Spiderman animated series version (I'm assuming my friend has too) so thats what we were basing him on.
The problem is despite making 100 million already the corporate people might still consider it unsuccessful and not go forward with a sequel. Yes they would be stupid but since when has anyone in the upper echelons of business ever done anything right.

Now that you mention it I felt that way too. It might be because of all the stupid trailers the theater I went to showed on top of the normal trailers (kinda like their own stupid television station).
-

It would be pretty hard for them not to consider it successful when it made at least 10 million more then their expectations and is the second biggest opening ever (for non-sequels). If a sequel isn't made, then it will be because of script, cast or crew problems, but they'll probably be throwing around enough money to make sure any potential problem goes away.
-
I think Iron Man 2 was a near certainty even prior to this weekend's boxoffice numbers.
Don't believe me?
Marvel Press release says:
Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010
Thor on June 4, 2010
And,
Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer - a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.
Of the lot, Thor strikes me as the one most likely to fizzle. Just based on potential appeal of the characters. :dunno

i don't believe you. Something must be up since you are on the internet and using facts to prove something.
Seriously though another iron man would be nice.

Your heart is in the right place, but your analysis is severely flawed. The numbers guarantee that another Iron Man will be made. This is a PERFECT example of the upper echelons of business doing things wrong, not the other way around. Every time something great comes out, the upper echelons of business go into immediate Xerox mode. They say, "Good god! Look at those numbers. Get five sequels in production IMMEDIATELY!" And we end up with Joel Shumacher Batmans and Bret Ratner X-men.
It is the fact that the upper echelons of business often seem unable to do things right that GUARANTEES that Iron Man 2 will be made, regardless of whether the director is ready to do a sequel, regardless of whether a decent script has been made, etc. The movie will be made, and it will be released on time. Period.
-
Keep in mind that Joel Schumacher wasn't entirely responsible for the two bad Batman movies. Up until that point, he was a respected filmmaker (still is, if you leave D.C. Cab, his Batmans, and The Number 23 out....I mean, come on, St Elmo's Fire, Lost Boys, Falling Down, Flatliners, The Client, A Time to Kill, Tigerland, Phone Booth).
Warner Bros was upset with Tim Burton's dark film Batman Returns. They wanted to sell toys, and a lot of parents complained about images of The Penguin on their kids McDonald's cups. WB had a much more kid-friendly image in mind.
If you ever have the chance (I haven't), listen to the commentary for Batman and Robin. It's one long apology from Schumacher. What I have heard of it is great. He's very humble.

It's official, Iron Man 2 is on the way: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7385049.stm

Not exactly a shocker there...

Nope, but I figured it was worth posting since some people here were questioning if a sequel would be made.

He means me. I just hope it doesn't turn into another poorly made sequel.

Now shmokes is mad at me.

I just hope it doesn't turn into another poorly made sequel.
Maybe it'll be like X-Men and Spider-man, where the second film is actually better than the first. Of course, both X-Men and Spidey's third movies were crap, so maybe we'll just get two Iron Man movies, then The Avengers movie.
-
Well the first one is a pretty accurate representation of the comic, correct? Of course they changed the plot a little for a modern world so we can expect the same from the sequel. So I'd imagine the second would be a direct continuation.
-

I recently re-watched the X-men movies, and I think the first one is by far the best of the series. Have to agree though that Spidey 2 was all around better.

Who wants to build an Iron Man suit? we can use nerf guns for the weapons lmao :laugh2:

Whats sad is thats the first thought my friend and I had, and talked about on the car ride home, after the movie.
-
I'm afraid that anything we could build would be roughly as useful as a medieval suit of armor. I don't know that putting on a full suit of armor and running around with Nerf weapons would be very much fun. ;D
-
well.... if you remember.... hallloween costumes !!!
I still remember the transformable transformers halloween costumes....
that is impressive...
-
BTW, where in the hell did Obidiah get that custom Iron Man power module extractor tool? That was impressive!

I was wondering about that too. He looked at Stark's chest one time and from that he figured out the specs on a tool to rip it out? Not to mention wouldn't Tony have been hurt by one of the bits of shrapnel getting loose and cutting something?
Who wants to build an Iron Man suit? we can use nerf guns for the weapons lmao :laugh2:
Lol my friend said the same thing. If you can live with the mark one then its possible to get a decent suit made. Why use nerf weapons when real ones would suffice? I mean what's the point of a metal suit of power armor if you aren't going to use it correctly.
-
Saw this on Saturday. While it was good, it wasn't nearly as good as it is being made out to be. I have to agree that the acting was superb...up until the climax.
My main gripe about the movie was also the highlight of the movie: They made the mechanics of the suit 'believable', but then everything else in the movie was utterly un-believeable.
The whole beginning when he was building the suit irritated the crap out of me. The fact they let him build that stuff was ridiculous. The main bad guy SAW what he was doing, looked at the blueprints, etc. He STILL let him continue.
In closing, Downey Jr. was excellent. Put anyone else in that role and the movie would have been worse than DareDevil. The plot...well I'll just say that Downey was great again!
-
Generally, that's how I felt about it too, though not necessarily for all the same reasons. I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it's as good as either of the first two Spidermans or first two X-Men movies. On the suit part, didn't they think he was building them that missile that he demoed to the military? I got the impression that they couldn't make out the blueprints for the suit because you had to lay them all on top of each other in order to see what they really were.
-

A coworker and I were discussing the blueprint thing. I mentioned the villian picked up the whole stack and looked. Coworker said that they were held like a hand of cards, so it wouldn't show up. Its really irrelevant though - once you see the dude start strapping pneumatics to his leg and testing, it is time to tug on the leash.
-

The guy has a flying robotic suit powered by a pace maker that was all build in a cave, and the leg testing is the scene that's to unrealistic?
Besides they did tug on the leash. After seeing the leg testing they threatened to put a piece of coal in the other guys mouth for lying.
The part after the credits was obvious, the only interesting thing was the actor they used. Otherwise I wish I would have just read the ending online before seeing the movie and saved myself 10 minutes of watching credits.
-

fix't
seriously the movie had 45 people in it tops, yet 9,174 people were used to make it.
-
they musta had shorter credits for the international release. i found myself thinking that the credits were rather short for a movie with lots of CGI. after the credits was a surprise to me since as i mentioned earlier i really dont know anything about ironman and friends...
-
I'm not a big Iron man fan either, or I wasn't before this movie, but I knew about the friends through Captain America. In the beginning it was obvious that long name was going to shorten the way it did. I didn't foresee the ending but it was never the less anticlimactic. I guess I’m just pist because I was hoping it would be a scene with the Air Force guy as War Machine.

next time you put your hand on my thigh, im gonna sock you one ;D
it could well be that most of you sat through the credits only because you knew there would be something at the end. therefore it would seem quite long if you dont normally do that. i however, have no life and ALWAYS sit through the credits. spotted 'mo henry' again the other day- she did '21'...

I always sit through credits i did know there was something at the end but they were longer than most movies thats for sure

I don't know if it was mentioned, but I loved the "vector" style animation during the first end credits.
can someone just spill the beans on the after-credits thing? We didn't stay.
