Title: setup for marble madness
Post by: stan2323 on March 16, 2008, 09:36:55 pm
I need some help from someone who is smarter them me.

I am trying to set up Marble Madness with the track ball.  What is values that should go in for the list below.   I have tried all kind of mouse X, mouse X+, mouse X-, mouse Y, mouse Y+ and mouse Y- but the marble moves slow even when I spin the track ball fast.  If I use the defaults joystick settings it goes very fast.

Track X Analog
Track X Dec
Track X Inc
Track Y Analog
Track Y Dec
Track Y Inc

When you press TAB in MAME there should be something in the list called "Analog Controls" I think. Then you can change the sensitivity of the X and Y of the trackball. I can upload some pictures upon request.

you have to adjust the analog sensitivity in the analog settings in mame by pressing tab while the game is running.

I have tried to change these values with no luck.  I do not know what # to try :dunno.  I doubled the # and then cut them in half, no luck.  What should the sensitivity be for Marble Madness?  The trackball works great for other game and as a mouse in Windows so did not think that would be a problem :dunno.

Can you provide some more detail?  Perhaps what brand trackball you are using and what version of MAME you are using.  CPU speed would help too.

That way if other users have similar setups then can tell you what theirs is set to.

Another part of the problem.  I do not know what info you need to make a recomendation.  I thought that the #s would be the same for each game and would not depend on the computer.

I have a HAPP 3 in trackball hooked up USB to a hud that has 2 GP-WIZ MAX 32 also hooked up.  It is a Gateway Laptop.  The processor is an AMD Athlon 64 at 2.93 GHz with 1 GB RAM.  Windows XP Home using EasyMame 5.6.6 as the front end, and Mame 0.123.

[I do not know what info you need to make a recomendation.

They key would be the type of trackball, how it's connected (direct usb/ps2, through an optical encoder, etc)....

I tried to get a collection of this type of data going: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=77375.0
but nobody was interested

First off, I crossed off the stuff you should not see in your input mapping for MM.  Map as follows:

Track X Analog    Mouse X
Track X Dec --- (aka: NO mouse anything)
Track X Inc ---
Track Y Analog    Mouse Y
Track Y Dec ---
Track Y Inc ---

The -Dec and -Inc lines are for non-analog inputs (like your keyboard).  If you map your mouse to these, mame will treat the mouse as a digital input and suck.

Then worry about the sensitivity mentioned in prior posts.

Thanks.  That fixed it.  Once I got rid of the DEC and INC it works the way it should.  I did try changing the sensitivity again and I can tell the difference, much better.  Thanks
