I have a few questions, because I have the opportunity to get a Nintendo cabinet.
I have read both this message:
http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=7264;start=msg51876
And this:
http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=6617
And I still have some questions on Nintendo arcade monitors.
First, one of the above posts seemed to indicate you could use Andy's ArcadeVGA with the Nintendo monitor. Is this true? Wouldn't the colors still be inverted? If they are inverted I need to make an inversion circuit, is there an easy way to do this (not being an EE), by purchasing or paying someone?
2nd, is it also true that Nintendo arcade setups are not JAMMA compatible? If so that would mean that the J-PAC would not work, correct?
Finally, is there anything else I need to MAME a Nintendo cabinet/monitor?
Thanks,

1a) I dont know enough about ArcadeVGA, but I know that on some VGA cards you can make it invert the colors before it goes out to the monitor -- right in the drivers.
1b) Many Nintendo cabs that were converted to other games MAY have an inversion circuit (the good ones, not a hacked 7404 chip) board mounted on top of the metal surround that goes around the flyback. Look to see if yours has it. You can select inverted or non inverted signals by moving a jumper.
2) Correct. At least all the Nintendo's I've seen from DK, DKJr, Mario and thru the Playchoice, they're all proprietary connections, usually using 2 separate 44 pin connectors instead of a single 56 pin Jamma one.

Eww, this is good info. To sum this up, given enough time and energy I should be able to MAME the cabinet. My main difficulties will be in the video output.

You may need an inversion circuit (ANALOG TYPE), if you connect the monitor and get wrong colors.
Here is a chart of the inverted colors:
Red -> Cyan
Green -> Magenta
Blue -> Yellow
Black -> White
As far as Non-Jamma, you would have to search for the pin-out of the connector. I have heard talk of somone wiring a Playchoice-10 board for a JAMMA cab, with a custom adaptor.
