I just started playing oblivion and i was wondering if there was another way to get lock picks besides being looted from monsters. like can they be bought somewhere.

It has been a long time since I played, but I am pretty sure you can purchase them if you join the thieves guild.

Also, there is a quest you can do that rewards you with a skeleton key. The skeleton key never breaks and allows you to just auto unlock until the lock opens.

Yep, thieves' guild until you get the skeleton key, which is available at level 10.

You can make money by using a mortar and pestle to combine ingredients to make potions and later sell them. You get money for even the stupidest potion of minor stamina. It's especially easy if you have the wizard's castle add-on.

Don't buy torches. You really don't need them.

I feel like such a cheater - always quicksaving right before picking locks - so that I would never run out.  I guess that kind of ruins some of the realism/challenge.  Edit: Oops! forgot what forum I was in. Can you quicksave on the console(s) versions?

im not sure if it has a quicksave. i do like the wait feature though because i really dislike playing at night. once and awhile fine but it gets annoying when questing sometimes.
