What did you knew? Those articles were all speculation from the time it happened. They're most likely true, but the editor in question can't admit it for legal reasons.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

Lots to see here. Anyone who claims it isn't because he panned their big money client is naive. The reason I mention it here is because every time I say it works that way people jump all over me as paranoid.

That's too bad. The GameSpot website was the only place I went to look up games.
GameStop is why I have a PS3 and RockBand. A week ago I though a game about a psycho and a hitman had to be great, until I read GameSpot's review.

GameSpot or GameStop?

I had to double check. I thought maybe the review site I used wasn't the bad one.
Gamestop is used games store. I have it bookmarked thanks to your recommendation in another thread.
If Mad Catz doesn't release a Rockband guitar soon I'm going to have to buy one from Gamestop.

gamespot probably gets paid to rank crappy games higher. assassins creed is nowhere near as good as gamespot say it is.

GameSpot or GameStop?
Gamestop, EBGames, Babbages, Gamespot - they are all the same company.

FuncoLand was another one.

I still have one of their NES cart shaped console cleaners with the handle on it. Works really well. I think I got it in a yard sale lot, though.
-
yup that's the place lol.
they also tried pushing some warrenty deal if you bought that darn cleaner too.
they must have made commosions off them or something :dunno

Each salesperson was actually required to sell a certain amount per month - if they didn't they were fired.

I had a job like that way back in the day with a company called Software Etc. I sold more books at my branch on a weekly basis than anyone did in one whole month. So the competition was very fierce. I had so much fun telling people of all the cool games I played for free (employee perk) just to get good sales. Heck my customers were always coming back to get my choice of the month.
Now when you go into a Gamestop, its like you have to pay them something to get a word out. No reviews of current games, no special offers. Just some guy telling me not to mod a Xbox 360 becuase he did and it got fried....Duh.
I think it is the Gamespot management who hire kids today with the hip haircuts and the rings in their noses to try to communicate to other kids today. But today's kids do not want to shell out hard earned pocket money on cheap 10 minute games. I think the game magazines suffer from this too.
I think they would get a fright if some 30 to 40 something guy wanted to know what games they liked. I'm sure the parents who come in and buy would like to see and hear from another adult whats their kids are playing. I would.
Case in point: I bought more games from Steam than I did at the retail store, purely due to presentation and trusted reviews (and it was cheaper too). I went to Gamestop and they just looked at me. Steam is adding more to their shop every week.
If Gamestop wants to increase sales and sell more of the older games they stock, they need to go back to basics. Sell or fire? Damn right!

How are you getting games cheaper on STEAM than in stores? They still want $40 for things that have been 20 bucks in stores for months.

My Orange Box was far more cheaper than buying retail, plus I get a discount. I have to admit though I like the idea of buying via steam instead of retail, especially when I have a hard drive crash and I cannot find the CD key that came with the game. I just log on to steam and download it again. :applaud:
I cannot fault Steam. They do try their best. I got free play on Eve without giving a credit card for 21 days. I wish I got something similar with Blizzard and WOW. ;D
I also like the gift system.
Great way to introduce a mate or Brother to some serious counter strike battles! :D

I've registered a couple games on STEAM, but never bought anything from them... For example, Sega Rally Revo, which looks like it'd make a good driving cab game is 50 bucks on STEAM. Its 20 at GameStop.
I could buy it at GameStop, register it on STEAM to remove the CD check, and still have the physical media. The best way STEAM could compete is on price, and they don't even try.

TOK my reply was biased towards the fact that games ARE cheaper on Steam but at the time I took advantage of their offers I was residing in the UK. With the exchange rate being what it was/is I got the good deals. I looked at my previous post and thought "gee I omitted that fact..." so there you go.
Looking at games on Steam like San Andreas for instance, I bought it on Steam, but when I went into my local wally mart, the same game was $9.99.
Even if my previous post doesn't hold mustard, I still have problems with the gamestop crew when it comes to just walking in, not being greeted or asked if I needed help. No, they just stand there and wait for you to buy something, which is a shame.
Maybe I should go and be a manager of Gamestop and stop complaining. ;D
