Title: windows 2000 pro headaches
Post by: specksynder on February 10, 2008, 11:37:05 pm
Can't get the latest MAME to run on this Windows2000 Pro machine at all -- seems to be a directx problem, maybe??

So I went to mame32.  Works alright.  However a few games (rampage world tour, for example) are not centered on the screen -- you can't see the left couple of inches of the screen and there is empty space on the right side.

Couple other odd issues with mame32... won't run games (x-men, spiderman) that I can run on windowsxp and the latest mame release just fine.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Probably not, or I would think MAME32 wouldn't work either. What happens exactly?

Adjust your monitor? If you are using a PC monitor, it is probably a video mode that hasn't been used before (and therefore not sized/positioned properly).

Check your romsets, and that they go with the Mame version you are using.

Ditch Windows 2000

No joke!  Everything works GREAT on my XP laptop when I tested stuff before I exported it to the cabinet in the garage... then all this mess.  I've also thought about switching the machine to Linux.

I can't remember what happens when I try to run the latest version of MAME... As I recall, an error box comes up and says "unsupported video mode" or "can't activate display" or something.  I'll look tomorrow and report back.
