Title: mamewah help.
Post by: xbradx on May 18, 2003, 06:00:29 pm
mamewah is great for what i need, but there seems to be a problem with the display. the screen is cut off on the right and bottom sides! the screenshot is cut in half and if i scroll to the bottom of my game list i cant see it.

there doesnt seem to be much documentation for mamewah and i couldnt find anything by searching this forum. anyone know what the problem could be?

Problems like this are almost common in MAMEWAH. It is really a downer. Fortunatly MAMEWAH is undergoing a total re-write that should have many of these kinks taken care of.

MAMEWAH works fine on only 1 of 3 of my computers! I get a runtime error on one of them (So wierd!)

So come on MinWah we all love MAMEWAH so much... (It is becoming really popular!) I want a new version SO badly! The MAMEWAH I am running now rocks, but I would love custom list support!

I have heard this problem once before from another user...I was not sure what the problem was but he managed to resolve it.  I have forgotten exactly what fixed it, but I am sure it was a video card setting.  Anyone any ideas?

I'm hoping to have the next release ready soon, which should address a lot of the problems (hopefully not too many new ones!).  Fingers crossed it should be uploaded 1st week of June :)

I know, I've really dug my own grave this time...I just realised I'm going to Newquay 8) from Friday til next Thursday which gives me 3 nights programming time.  Hopefully I'll just about be capable of uploading the new release when I get back...if the shakes aren't too bad  :D

Minwah - I tried MameWah and I like it a lot.  Can it be rotated for vertical monitors?

Thanks!

Yea that would be a cool feature! Maybe 2 releases off? I know it would be better for my cocktail...

Next release (soon) you will be able to rotate vertically...kindof.  If you have either a) rotation software (eg PivotPro) OR b) video hardware rotation (eg Radeon Control Panel) then you can design your MAMEWAH layout to run at eg 480x640, and the screen will be rotated.

I *think* using the above methods may have a slight performance hit (especially using software) depending on your system.  Unfortunately, I am unable to code screen rotation directly...maybe DirectX is required to do this (?).

Let me know how it goes if you get chance...

Well, behind the jarbled qoutes.. I think PacManFan offered you rotation code? Wow, PacManFan you really are a good guy... I don't know why they were flaming you in that other thread?

I just tried Mamewah today and I really liked it. Only think I would really like to see is support to change the default controls as those controls are not available on my panel (I use mouse buttons for Player 1 and Player 2 start). I could reconfigure player 1 buttons 1 and two to be number 1 and 2, but having player 1 button 1 as enter gives a lot of non-mame functionality.

paigeoliver: Next release has the option to change the keys :)

PacManFan:  Thanks, check your PM  ;)

In response to the original problem.

I recently switch a few video cards in and out of my mame system and I ran into this problem on my ATI Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO card. Granted I think the card is hosed, but I did manage to fix that particular problem. I had to completely remove the display drivers (twice, because of other issues) and use the Windows XP default VGA Adapter drivers to get everything sorted out. Once things were working with the bare minimum generic drivers (I use the the TV out option on my card, and that may have had something to do with it) I reinstalled the most recent drivers off the ATI site and my problem with missing half the screen went away.

Now if I could just get rid of the crazy lines that pop up once in awhile (I'll be very sad if this card is hosed).

I'm not 100% sure what you mean about 'crazy lines', but if they are 1 pixel width lines it is possible that there are some bugs in my code which uses a pretty dirty way of covering up Windows-look controls...this will not be an issue in my next release :)

No the lines are only present in the windows environment and only when the desktop is displayed all by itself. Whenever a window is open or an application or whatever they go away. I think it's particular to my video card and I also think it's a hardware problem that may not be resolveable. The problem doesn't exist in mamewah so I continue to use the card anyway. When it finally explodes, like I think it will, I'll have to replace it.

that is the exact card i am using. i will have ot try that. i have been having all sorts of problems with this card (mame showing up in b&w only, not detecting the tv at times, and things like that).
