does anyone know if mame supports this option? i was trying out another emu and a menu came up for the neogeo games if i were to play the console version. it like a regular game menu with start, options, credits, etc. all my neogeo games are in arcade mode and i would like to play them in console mode.

Mame does not. I think it has to do with the "Arcade" part of mame's name. :P
There might be hacks for mame, but I don't know. I suggest you use the other emu.

I believe NeoRageX is what you want. Been a while since I have used it though. There may be something better now.

I hate to get grumpy here, but I've noticed a lot of noob posts about homebrew games for mame or console games for mame ect.
Let me put it for you straight.
MAME is an archive project. MAME only archives true arcade games with rom information. MAME cares more about accurate emulation than playable emulaiton.
So to run down the list of things you won't see in mame EVER:
Gambling games
Homebrew games
Discrete circuitry games (like pong)
Console games
Hacked games
Your latest 3d super arcade game running at a playable speed
so to avoid confusion i suggest everyone type "MAME" like this from now on:
mAmE
emphasis on the ARCADE emphasis on the EMULATOR
that is all...:)

Why are you venting here? Very few 'noobs' are gonna see your post here, thats what FAQs are for.
And for the record mAmE (like that?) did have gambling ROMs at one point. Come to think of it, there are quite a few hacked pacman ROMs in the current release.

Yes, MAME will do Neo Geo console mode. You have to compile your own version to do it, though, as the mainstream version has this commented out.
-
Here's (http://www.mameworld.net/compile32/Fixes.htm) what you have to change in the source if you want to compile your own executable.
-
Can someone point me to a detailed run-down of why discrete circuitry games are not emulated? I don't feel like getting yelled at by Howard so I'm asking for a link instead of a lecture.
Thanks,
BillyJack

yes, why are you even venting about this in this thread? when i said "console version" of neo geo, i meant the option in the roms that allow neo geo games to act as either the arcade version or the home version with options, practice, etc. now i'm not sure if you knew this or not, and since i know you're one of the regulars here, i'll just leave it at that.

To answer everyone's comments. The gambling games were removed because the mame devs realized they were getting off track. They were only in for a version or two. There are 0 hacked roms in mame. Now bootleg roms that actually made it to physical arcade machines are in there, but those aren't hacked roms in the truest sense of the word.
I'm venting here because even though the mameworld forums are supposed to be for very specific mame questions about useage they get asked here a lot (they shouldn't be asked here imho but I can't fight it so I go with it). And if you think noobs read the faqs then you are giving them and yourself too much credit, respectfully.
Discrete circuitry games aren't in mame because if they were they would be simulated, not emulated as there isn't any rom information to emulate a system for. That's why I suggesed mAmE but I guess that went over your head. :)
I understood your question perfectly.... again... mame is an ARCADE emulator and you would never see the games in console mode at an ARCADE.

oooooooooooooo....now i get it!!! ::) to tell you the truth, your post was a little too long for me to read since i just came out of a final exam. so i must have missed that line before. upon going back, i see it now. completely understood!
i also tried to do that compiling thing but couldnt get it, so owells...

There are 0 hacked roms in mame.
Are you sure about that? Better check out 'Snow Bros. 3 - Magical Adventure'
We were having a discussion about this game not too long ago over in AGM. This was pointed out, as the 'creation date' was 2002, which is out of the dates 'allowed' for inclusion withing MAME (games have to be at least two years old). And that the reason for this 'new' game being included because it is a hack.

Question.
Gambling games are off track, but DELUXE MAHJONGG BOOBIE PORN QUIZ is on the track? What track are they on here. ;D
Also. I am all for discrete circuitry games, even though they would be simulated rather than emulated. I would really like to get a chance to play Stunt Cycle and Shark JAWS sometime in my lifetime (had a Shark JAWS boardset for over a year, I SO wanted to have a way to play it).

Not true, very few n00bs look at the FAQ! Ever see the questions asked, then goto the FAQ and see the answer?
Actually, I am not going to look now, but I think the neogeo question is answered in the mame faq.

I remember playing Stunt Cycle when I was a kid one time... when I got into mAmE, (heh) I searched forever until I found the game's name then found out that it was unemulated.... :'(
oh well... there's always vs. excitebike.

I could've sworn MAME used to do what he was looking for (the console version). At least, I remember playing a neogeo game back in the day and one on the dip switch settings in mame allowed you to choose between arcade or console.
I am 99.9% sure I saw that option in mame at one point or another.
