just put a bar fridge in the bedroom and am looking to dampen the sound a little when the compressor kicks in.
I figure the two options are the pc foam stuff (cheap)
or something like this stuff (expensive)

we have laminate, so I figure some underneath, as well as some around the motor. Someone also suggested lining the inner walls, but that might be abit much.
any thoughts ?

It also helps if you leave the fridge in the kitchen.

nyuck nyuck.. it's a bar fridge for those long hot nights.. er.. in summer. :censored:

Just remember that the coils and the compressor have to have clearance. The manual should spell the clearances out. That still DOES NOT mean you can enlclose either of them as long as the enclosure is 2 inches away from the compressor.
Odds are you will just have to deal with the sound. Next time buy a better fridge. :P ;D

I ended up building an entire room for my fridge to keep the noise down, I call it a kitchen.

Well, as much as my 4 kids plus any guests would love to see me streak my way across the house and downstairs into the kitchen, we kind of decided on making our bedroom more of a haven. I'm happy that everyone has kitchens, they are useful and great ideas and do serve a purpose. And I'm sure all your kitchens are very lovely and quiet.
Turns out it was actually just one pipe that has the noise coming off it, so I'll probably just wrap that with some foam (it has foam, but it's obviously really cheap stuff) maybe add a matt of some sort underneath the unit.
Gotta keep the wife happy.. I have too many things to buy yet ;)

Is the pipe rattling when the compressor kicks in? If so, you might benefit from wedging something between the pipe and fridge to keep the pipe from moving.

You could leave the fridge in the basement, and teach the wife to fetch.
