Here’s my 1989 BMW Z1, hence the user ID.
There was only 8000 of these ever made for the German market. There are approx only 4000 left in the world, only a handful are in the US due to import laws, and approx 100 here in the UK.

Yeah those are badass with the doors that drop down.
I've only seen one over here at the Barrett-Jackson car auction.
-
I used to own a 1981 Ford EXP hatchback - but the hatch/roof had been taken off and replaced with a custom convertible roof much like a two seater Mercedes. It looked very much like a 2/3 scale '80s Mustang 5.0, and the body was immaculate... but it had a Ford 1.6 4cyl that was only a little better than a Flintstones car. It was about as realiable as an '81 Ford too. Still, the chicks really dug it. I can probably dig up a pic or two if anyone wants one.

Does it count if you don't drive it...does it have to run?
I have a project version of one of these...

My buddy had an exp, but he had the HO 1.8 motor. It was a lot of fun!
I have a pontiac sunfire with a cavalier front clip, chameleon paint, lamborghini style doors, etc...

I had to have an antique car expert appraise it for insurance purposes... the blue book value on the car was like $85 and the insurance company wouldn't budge from that unless I had documentation that stated it was worth more. Good thing I did that, too, since it got broken into and attempted stolen twice, both times with a good amount of damage to the expensive cloth roof. That thing had the best antitheft system short of tommy's dog in the back seat - a wonky carb that only started if you gave it exactly 2.5 pumps of the gas pedal before turning the key.
-
I used to drive one of the new GTO's (known as the Monaro outside the U.S.), which there were only about 40,000 made in its 3 year run.
My dad has a 1928 Chevy truck and is currently rebuilding a 1919 Indy race car.
Heres a pic of an unusual car I came across in a parking lot one day

That's kind of effed up. I wonder which steering wheel is the dummy.
-
That car would be great for people with young kids.

Awesome. Take a peek at youtube and see if they have the Lights, Motors, Action show from MGM Studios in either Orlando or Disney in Paris. We caught that in '06 and they demonstrate all kinds of cool tricks like that used in movie stunt driving. Pretty cool.
-
I used to own a 86 mustang 5.0 with 91 mustang rear side windows.
-
Here are my cars, not realy in the same league as some of these hell i have never owned a ford but i thought i would share anyway...
1980 VW Bay Window Panel Van
1974 VW Bay Window Camper
1972 VW Baja Beetle
1981 Metro 6R4

Nice orange suit and hat. :laugh2:
-
Hell yes, that's the P.I.M.P right there dude...
-
Man those Z1's were and are cool.....
-
Maybe neither... One of the greatest ever youtube vids. ;)
hehe, that was neat. It took almost the whole video before I realized what was really going on. Am I correct in that they had replaced the rear axle with another front end? There were two drivers working in tandem. It was really messing with my sense of perception for a while.
-
I have a Pontiac Aztek...ugly as sin, but very functional and reliable for me.
Xam

barcrest
a 6r4, nice, just how stupidly fast is that exactly?
-
I had a 1970 Buick Skylark with a nice 350 engine a few years back and I would consider that not a normal car to be driving. I sure do miss that big tank. :'(

I still have my 1974 Ford truck, which definately feels like a tank when I'm driving it. :)

It appears to have a steering front and rear in addition to the body being mounted backwards. You can hear the reverse whine for a second when the guy is actually driving it forward. I had to watch those turns at the end over and over where they're keeping the body straight and turning both sets of wheels. Kind of nuts to be doing that on regular streets... They put the 4 way flashers on, which is kind of funny in its own right.

the only REALLY unusual car i had was a beach buggy. a one off back yard job. more body filler than fibreglass, probably one of the only beachies that weighed more than a beetle! today i completed a trifecta of unusual cars seen in the last week. saturday was a late model ferrari (dunno which one, but i saw it in national treasure), sunday a detomaso pantera and today an aston martin db5. sweet ;D

Well i drive a 94 Ford Probe GTS
Its not unusual expect its 1 of only 2010 Australian probes made it different than the US and UK probes.
The uk probes have different headlights and systems where the Australian probe is alot like a US probe except its RHD and has Vaccumm HVAC Controls from an MX6 altho so it is quite rare but to most of you americans its just a probe :P

Does my Skoda Octavia count ?
It's basically a Volkswagen Golf (same bottom, same engine) station, but I guess it's unknown outside of Europe.

Centipede and Puckman cabs fit without a problem, and yes backdoor closed. :)
-
I had a 1979 Jeep CJ5 with a big Ford 350 V8 in it. Thing would do 95 MPH down the freeway no problem. The thing only had 3 gears. Got about 10 MPG.

ahhhh... now i think about it, it probably isnt on the roads here yet.

It's on the roads here in europe, badged Honda Jazz. They're called the 'Fit' stateside, yes?
Great little motor, reliable, economical and versatile. Real all rounder.

Yeah, it's called a 'Fit' here... I got the Sport package, which is pretty nice.

I had a 2003 civic hatchback but got rid of it, biggest mistake ever. I could have got a great deal against the new civi hatch against it. Cool motor, brillian dashboard.

I'm thinking about the Fit in a couple of years when I have to replace my Civic. Love my Civic but wish I could move a pin in it. The Fit may be both.

Yeah, I recently bought that one. It's a nice car. I got the 5 door Sport. I hear a lot of complaints about build quality, but mine is fine (for now)
Had to turn in my Audi TT, because I needed a family car :-[
The Civic Dashboard is something that people should try on their cabinet ;D It's really cool to see how the dials "float" in a sea of blue light.

I put in a reservation for a smart car. I might get it late 2008/early 2009. It'll be great for my commute (3.3 miles, no highway)
What I really want is a smart-sized and priced car with a plug-in electric motor that'll go 60 miles between charges. I'd get one of those in a flash.

You could make your own electric car for that kind of commute you know...and for a whole lot less money. ;D
And if you don't feel like doing all the legwork of designing, you can just buy a kit.
http://www.electroauto.com/index.html
Either way, a HELL of alot cheaper than a smart car.

Another neat link.

yeah, and for such a short commute, you could build an electric streeter. that would be awesome! i would if i had some dough (or i could just get a loan :D)
-
I like this one (http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/).

I had a loan of a smart roadster a couple of years ago, brilliant little car. No longer in production unfortunately....

Its strange, I see a TON of Honda Fits around me in Jersey despite them being fairly new. A few friends from other states say what you say and don't see many at all, but they're very common near me for some reason.
Funnily enough, I very rarely see my car on the road despite them not being rare or hard to find at all (Mazda 3 hatchback). I see a ton of sedans though.
-
That is odd... I see a lot of Mazda 3 hatchbacks around here. I was considering one of those when I was car shopping.

Yup, its funny how the area affects stuff like that. I know of 2 other hatches near my work that I see parked on a semi-regular basis. I also know my friend in town got one since he saw mine and went to my dealer. Take those 3 out of the equation, and I've seen next to none in the 6 months I've had it. I've only seen one MazdaSpeed 3 on the road so far too, but that makes a bit more sense.
-
yeah a 1997 eclipse GSX, 2.3L G50 turbo 400-500 HP AWD 5 speed and it gets like 19 mpg
no one I know drives a car like this anymore.
