Hi,
I made the mistake of assuming that a 19" CRT PC Monitor tube was the same size as a 19" CRT arcade tube. It isn't, so I need to know if a 20" or a 21" PC monitor is the same as a 19" arcade monitor. This is for a cocktail cabinet conversion to MAME.
Thanks,
Jeff

With or without case and what year?

I am wanting to decase a PC monitor to use in my new cocktail project. The cocktail cabinet is a 1981 Trivia Whiz with a 19" CRT monitor.
The decased 19" Compaq monitor I tried was too small.

Why don't you use the arcade monitor that came with it?

The original was severly burned in and didn't work anyway. I personally prefer a PC monitor, the refresh rate of an arcade monitor strains my eyes. But that is subjective.

I am not sure there is a PC monitor that will be exactly the right size. 21" monitors tend to run about 20" viewable. 20" monitors are really hard to find. Sony Trinitrons came in that variety, but I think their viewable was only about 18¼".

Not sure either. I just pulled apart a Philips 201B 21" CRT (20" viewable) monitor to replace the 19" in the Taito cabinet I'm working on. It looks as if the original bezel (plastic that funnels down to the monitor) will work almost perfectly. It might need trimmed a bit.
