Greetings everyone!
This is my first post and I am proud to announce that I am starting my first arcade project! Currently I am looking at using an old Pentium 3 comp running Win 98 with a 19" CRT monitor. For the case, I am looking into buying the 4 player cocktail cabinet that they just released at mameroom.com because my wood working skills are less then great and I don't have the floor space to build my own. For a front end I am currently playing around with MALA since it does a pretty good job at rotating the screen to the original orientation of the rom. How cool is that!!! ;D I am thinking about using MAME32, Nestopia, ZSNES, Fusion, and VisualBoyAdvanced for my emulators.
I look forward to showing off my project to everyone and picking the brains of the more experienced! Please feel free to give me some constructive criticism since I am completely new to this and welcome everyones insight.

What are the specs of the comp you are going to use? Is it running Mala OK?

I am not sure yet. I am looking at a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with 1 gig of ram and potentially a relatively low level graphics card. Why is MALA hell on system specs? My main that I am experimenting with is a gaming rig so I can't tell how well MALA will run on a slower comp. But on my 3.6 Ghz duelcore AMD processor with 2 gigs ram and 512mb video card it runs like a champ.

Don't know why it takes alot of computer to run it right. I've just heard that it does and I've been curious to see how low people can go with it.

Cool. I just got a hold of a 2.6 GHz Pentium 4 with 512 MB of ram. I'll let you know how well it works when it shows up in a few days.

Good luck with your project! :)
The PC im using in my cocktail is pretty much the same spec as yours (2.8Ghz P4, 512MB RAM) and it runs Mala/MAME perfectly so I imagine yours should work well too.
