Title: Speaking of strange things on eBay...
Post by: HaRuMaN on November 14, 2007, 11:08:37 am
My wife had some books she wanted to get rid of.  It's an antique children's book collection called "My Book House" printed in 1937.  We had checked some auctions to see what they were going for, and we saw one set similar to ours go for around $120.  I didn't want to set my hopes too high, so I thought that I'd be happy if we ended up getting around $80 bucks for the set.  My wife thought we'd get around $50.  So, I set the reserve to $35 dollars and set up an eBay ad.

Much to our suprise...

The bids are now up to $280!  That's bonus Christmas money, now.... hehe

Oh, here's a link if you wanted to see: my auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220169040359&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=012)

Hey that's cool. I am auctioning an old tablet digitizer for CAD programs right now. The boss threw it in the trash pile, so I did a quick search for its value, which ended up being $50-$150 on ebay. Needless to say, I am hoping for a bit of extra Christmas cash too. ;D

wasnt there a thread on how people increase the price of things on ebay through crafty means and such?

Id never sell my books though.  i loves me cat in the hat, shadows of the empire, and machine crusade.  wow 280.  id like to see the buyers face when they get the book and see 4.95 on the back above the barcode (if it has one).

Erm, I doubt they were charging 4.95 in 1937... nor using barcodes...  :dizzy:

he wouldnt have to though.  im just saying it would be funny when they get it kinda like this star wars action figure that went for several hundred dollars and it still had the original price sticker on it.

its not like the buyer will email him asking for the difference.

The original sticker would probably make it worth more. The whole comment is retarded. That's like saying Xmen#1 is a rip-off because it still has the 10 cents price on it. ::)

There is no price listing, or stickers, or barcodes on the books.  Even if there was, I wouldn't take them off.

Value...  I guess it boils down to what someone is willing to pay for something they want.

I've been wanting to go buy a lamp from Wall-Mart and take it to Antiques Roadshow and argue with them about my priceless heirloom. Especially if it says "WALL-MART" really big on the bottom, then I'd start saying that was my grandmother's name.
