Title: Game Problem
Post by: apples on November 08, 2007, 03:16:31 pm

Hi all, i have just signed up and i must say i'm liking the site, good work.

Now to my problem, i recently bought a jamma arcade from eBay with a tumble pop PCB, all is fine except when i connect my Street Fighter 2 PCB then the screen is all over the place as if the V-Hold needs adjusting, only problem is i cannot find it on the rear of the monitor (which is a Mid Polo 20" Hantarex) i adjusted a green nob, red nob and a further 2 red nobs but all they seem to do is adjust the brightness & colour.

Can anyone give me any clues as to what to do, i'm new to all this jamma business and bought the machines for my 7yr old.

Thanks

Not familiar with the first game, but it sounds like a sync issue.  Perhaps one game is standard res, and the other medium?

There should be a knob for H FREQ and H PHASE.
There's a small board that plugs into the rear area of the monitor chassis with several pots on it, it may have a cable plugged into it's place so that the board could be relocated towards the front of the machine.

Thanks for the replies,

I've searched everywhere inside the machine but still cannot find the H Feq or familiar nobs, i'm stumped  :'(

i think you will find the adjustment control board may be mounted via an extension lead either in the monitor bezel area, under the cp or inside the coin door
if you take some photos of the back of the monitor we can tell which to adjust
it sounds to me that you are adjusting the colour drives on the neck card

Thanks for the reply mate, i followed some wires that were plugged into the rear of the monitor and hey presto there were the controls  ;D

What i want to know now is, the volume control on my SF PCB doesn't work, do i need a new PCB or can these volume controls be repaired?

sound problems can be down to many things, missing voltage/wrong software settings/wiring incorrect or sound generator circuit of the game board
first check if another game gives you sound, that will then prove voltage and wiring is correct.
then check all the dil switches are what they should be(i don't think this applies with your game board though)

I connected my tumble pop game and the volume adjusts no problem, connected SF2 again and the volume wont adjust and it's very loud, i haven't a manual for the PCB so not sure whether the dil switches are in the right place or whether they would make a difference

What version of SF2 do you have?
(Alpha, CE, Turbo, etc)

I assume you have tried the Vol up and Down switches on the pcb case itself then?

Does your cabinet have a "test" switch to get into the menu?

Were you able to adjust your video sync problem?

Hi Kevin,

I was able to adjust the video sync yes, i found the H freq etc buttons, SF2 is version Champion Edition, the only test switch i can see is on the coin mech to enter credits, the volume control was on the actual game PCB think it's labelled VR1? same as tumble pop but the volume control worked on that but not SF.

the only test switch i can see is on the coin mech to enter credits

So that "test" switch only adds credits?
(just want to clarify)

There should be an actual TEST switch that when you put it in the test position and THEN turn your machine on it will bring up some menus and such.
I just want to see if your machine has that wired in already, if not then it can be added to the JAMMA harness pretty easy. It might open up some volume options, etc.

That's correct, i haven't got an actual Test switch that brings up a menu etc

OK, now that we know what version you have, there looks like a dipswitch that can be turned on and then turn the machine on to bring up the menu.

DIP SW C - switch number 8

Not sure if the dips are labeled on the board A,B,C, but there is a diagram in the manual...... it's the only one that appears to use switch number 8. So if you're unsure which one it is, try each one at a time.

sounds like the vol pot is broken if you get sound but no adjustment

Yup, that was my next suggestion is that the pot is bad since the sound does work, just not adjustable.
I was just hoping maybe there was a sound menu like on some other SF2 boards that he could adjust to work around it. But it doesn't look like he has that option.

And I'm assuming there is no other sound pot built into the cab itself then as well. (?)
(coming from the JAMMA harness)
