I don't have either but I have long followed the modded xbox scene.
While I know you can mod a 360 does it have the same capabilities as the original?
-
IMO, no. You simply can't beat the original Xbox. A modded 360 is good for one thing, and that's playing games. You can't (as of yet) play emulators, have a kick-ass media center (XBMC), etc with a 360. Especially considering the price, as you can pick up a modded Xbox for under $100 nowadays, while it's younger sibling still brings in $279 for an unmodded console.

A modded 360 is simply a replacement firmware for the DVD drive, so it ONLY allows you to play copies.
There isn't really any homebrew scene, which is what made modded Xbox so worthwhile. There has been some work running linux and homebrew on older kernals and downgrading 360's to those older kernals, but it is no where near prime time ready, and it prevents you from playing any new games that require the later kernals.

Nope, not even close. The original xbox is much more useful when modded.

Agreed. The original Xbox had multiple emulators, XBMC, homebrew games, streaming video functionality, etc etc
The problem with the original Xbox is the lack of available replacement parts (dvd drives, power supplies). I would keep several Xboxes around if the parts werent getting harder and harder to find.

Used Xboxes are everywhere. It's not hard to find.

Not yet, but Sources (http://www.xbox-scene.com) say its becoming more possible, but i doubt it will ever get to the stage that the xbox was at.

The only problem with a modded xbox is that it doesnt have to juice to handle anything HD. The media center stuff for the xbox is amazing as long as you understand its not gonna handle HD. You dont need a modded 360 to take advantage of watching movies in HD or music, if you get Tversity setup and working your golden. I have a 57" HDTV in the livingroom with a 360 hooked to it and a 46" LCD HDTV in the bedroom, also with a 360 connected, they are in constant use, movies, games, music and also Media Center Duties. I LOVE setting the tv up in the livingroom in PIP mode, DirecTV on one side, OTA HDTV via Media Center in the other, its show off heaven. Because of all this, I have like 3 modded xbox's sitting around, guess I need to see about selling them.
