Hehe i'm not sure.. but must have been fun getting everything setup/taken down hehe

Okay, now somebody tell me what the point of that is? Why do that when you can stay at home and be connected to a bigger network? Maybe it's just me - if I'm going to plan a special trip somewhere, it sure as hell isn't going to be to a big stadium like that to play games on my computer :)

I used to go to small lan parties a few years ago before broadband was available.. a lot of games are hard to play over dial-up.. most of them were only 10-15 people though in someone's garage.. (local not long trip hehe)
usually we would do a BBQ and some other stuff.. hacky sack.. whatever.. hehe
but now with broadband.. you can just connect from home.. (still not as nice as 100 megabit but works decent for games)
Also.. if it's just with your friends.. it's fun to harass them from across the table hehe.. but i'm not sure you would have the same effect in such a large room..
maybe there is money prize involved?? hehe

It was in Hamar, Norway. There were more than 5000 people there. It wasn't just to play 1 game or anything. It was made up of a whole bunch of groups. Programmers, game players and a bunch of other smaller groups. Though I'm sure there was a really big QUAKE session going on.
They even had live web cam pics on the net from there.
Kindof stupid if you ask me.

I also think it is dumb. Once it is large enough where you are no longer playing with the people next to you whose faces you can see and reactions you can hear, you might as well just be playing on the internet.

Holy Cow! I can't imagine it being that much fun. I remember playing LANs back when Doom first came out (good old IPX) and we had 8 guys show up to play 2 different 4-player games. Remember when 4 was the limit? :) Then when Quake rolled around and we could do 16 players, that was a hell of a good time....
5000? I don't think so.... It's way more fun to see or hear your buddy when you just hit him square in the face with a rocket. :D

Perhaps broadband is rare/prohibitively expensive in Holland still? Even then, I don't think I'd have lugged a computer/monitor to something like that.
-
thats me, over there on the right, waving at the camera. ;)
-
LAN parties are cool but i dont usually do em because lugging your computer around is a pain in the ass.
-
Wasn't this a demo-party for demo-sceners? If it was it's damn cool, but if it's a gamer party... wouldn't wanna be there really!!!

Who knew there were that many nerds in the world!

Blah.. looks like where I work sans walls :(
