Title: stupid questions about full screen and mame
Post by: notaburger on October 03, 2007, 09:36:56 pm
i can't get mame to work in full screen for all games with my new computer
my old command line options aren't working for me
outside of removing the disclamers all i have is -tripplebuffering and -ka
what do i need to do to make all my games play in full screen while retaining their own aspect ratios?

it may also be worth noting that although mame runs in full screen, the game only runs in a smaller portion of that screen

the aspect ratios that it runs them in do not seem to be correct either

maybe it's my integrated video, i can't get a new card until the end of the month so it'll be a bummer if that's the case

again, sorry for such a "noob" question, but i'm just tired of trying to figure it out on my own

thanks

Are you running on an arcade monitor or a PC monitor?  The problems are going to be in your mame.ini file, and the fix is going to depend on what type of monitor you are using.  If it is a PC monitor, you may just want to go with D3D -- this isn't the best for authentic game look, but it will size all of the games correctly.

I had that problem, and it was because of the video card. Using a different video card and changing no settings the problem went away.

The video card that gave me the most issues was the onboard intel video card. I replaced it with a $50 PCI card and all is well.

b.v. it's a 31" pc monitor (capable of resolutions up to 800x600)

i WAS using an old agp nvidia card but my new board only has pci express
the integrated video is some off brand, i don't even think that it's intel

it works fine for viewing stuff, but i figured it couldn't handle the complexity that is mame

i guess i'll just have to wait until the end of the month to pick up a pcie card from fry's

no biggie, i was going to get something nice anyway so i could play dreamcast games on there

thanks for the help guys
